Quarto ruim.

I'm staying here right now and the room I'm in makes me feel closterphobic. I'm icelandic with relatives from here. Almost no windows and they didn't have 2 rooms available so I have to stay in same tiny bed with another. The shower is nothing and toilet close up.

The hotel is beautiful, with an artistic atmosphere, guitars, paintings and architecture all over the hotel, and the breakfast is delicious. The space to eat is small, but you can use the tables in the lobby too, but the food is all homemade and of the highest quality, which is unforgettable. Only the hotel restaurant could close later, as we arrived at 9:00 pm and it was already closed, and the breakfast area could really be bigger, but the place is wonderful.

This hotel was very pleasant. We were able to park right outside, and the reception area was welcoming. Our room seemed to be newly decorated, with a nice shower. There was no view from our room, just a steep slope. There were a few minor issues with our room. There were no towel rails, or shelves, or drawers. The only hooks were so high I couldn't reach them. The headboard had curved edges, and the reading light was set on the wall, so it didn't provide any light to read. There was a coffee maker, but only one pod, no sugar, or milk. I requested a kettle but I was told they don't provide them. These were only minor things, but it gave the impression that the rooms had been designed to look good, rather than provide people with the things they need. The breakfast area was also badly designed. The food was of a good quality, but it was set out on a small counter, so very crowded. There was one very big table, and a large sofa, neither was very practical. Some people took their food through to reception, which was more comfortable, but a nuisance if you had forgotten anything. I would stay again, if I was in the area, but they need to rethink a few things to make it more practical.

Clean and comfy apartment, well equipped. The reception staff are friendly and welcoming. Our issues are that the arrival instructions advised we would receive check in details before our arrival, we never received them and had to ring the hotel, you just go to the bar to check in. The hotel needs to correct their instructions. The tiny breakfast room is chaos and is too small for the purpose. All the continental breakfast offerings are on one bar so everyone has to squeeze together like a rugby scrum. With only two hands it was impossible to get a juice, a small plate and a small bowl of cereal. Also there wasn’t enough food and utilities, the staff were constantly refilling all, leaving tetchy customers.

Stayed at Hotel Akureyri for 1 night after coming from Westfjords. We couldn’t have made a better choice! We felt very welcomed at check-in (got the last room of the night). It was affordable and beds were very comfortable and just what we needed. Breakfast was delicious and gave us a great start for our day of driving. Also had a nice lobby/gathering space. Parking was convenient right out in front of the hotel. I wish we would have had more time to explore the town as it was beautiful! Loved this hotel and would stay here again and recommend it to others.

Mixed experience. We had to book very last minute when the Ring Road flooded and we could not get to our next destination via the Southern route. So at 10 PM the night before we had to re-route and go North and all around the island to get to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. The good: The on line rates were exceptional, given that most hotels along the Golden Circle and Reykjavik cost $350-$450. This was $160 including breakfast. We were very grateful they could accommodate us. The location was excellent and we were able to park outside of the hotel even though we arrived close to 9 PM. Lovely funky lobby-mixture of traditional/historical and fun modern touches. Great windows and very inviting and large. The mixed: Our room had a low sloping roof on one side of the bed, and it would be easy to seriously injure yourself in the middle of the night. Quite tiny, but fine for one night. The breakfast offerings were only fair and the breakfast room is so tiny, that you have to carry your food from the breakfast room to the lobby where there are nice tables to sit and eat. But each time you needed something, you had to walk across the lobby, up the stairs and wait in line to get something. Offerings were very limited compared to elaborate buffet breakfasts at other hotels where we stayed. Nothing hot except coffee. As mentioned, the view of the water is partially obstructed by a bunch of new condo buildings, but our room maintained a nice view. The bad: 1)Our toilet did not flush and ran all night, starting at midnight. There is no one at the desk at that hour and we would have been too tired to move rooms anyway, but essentially we had no toilet except by going down to the lobby area in the morning. When I told the front desk the next day, she said “thanks for telling us”, but I think a partial refund would have been a nice offer. Since we had a long drive ahead of us, I was not going to make a fuss. 2) The confirmation email received at the time fo booking said that I would get an email at 2 PM on check in day with location of my room and check in code. It said that the hotel was spread across several historic buildings, so we would need information about where to go. I never got this check in email and was quite anxious when we were having dinner at 8:30 PM and no check in information. When I called, I was told to come to the front desk and our room was not in a separate building but right upstairs. I believe this confirmation email needs to be changed and guests instructed to check in in-person. We had a lovely walk around the town before checking out and a good dinner down the street. Despite the complaints, I would stay here again because of location and price.

We stayed here for three nights while we explored the north of Iceland, including whale-watching in Husavik, Godafoss, Dettifoss, and Lake Myvatn. The hotel is charmingly decorated, the staff are all very helpful, and the included breakfast was the best we had across four different hotels. The rooms aren't spacious but it is an older building and that's par for the course as we found in Iceland. If we ever have the chance to return to Akureyri, we will stay here again.
