The location is excellent. Close proximity to tram and an array of dining options. The downsides included the absence of wardrobes which meant we were living out of our suitcase for a week. There was a constant noise from the water heating unit situated in the kitchen and it sounded like the exhaust fan was constantly running. There was nothing in the way of basics e.g salt, pepper, sugar etc. There were no coffee pods for the machine and you couldn't buy the correct pods in any of the local stores (housekeeping didn't provide any during our stay). The check in process was a comedy of errors resulting in us being provided with card keys for a different unit to the one we were told. As it turned out we had booked and paid the higher rate for a canal view apartment and this had been double booked. Luckily we got to stay in the canal view apartment. Communication with the team at Canal Hotel was challenging as we only had email access. Would we stay there again - maybe. The extra space was welcomed as we were staying for a week. Is it a 4 star venue - probably not.

My wife and I stayed at Canal Suites from 16 July to 24 July. We were in an apartment with a beautiful canal view on Keizersgracht a few doors down from the Amstel River. At one end of the street was a cafe, a very nice fruit and veggie stand, and a baker. Just down the street were our pick of restaurants and an Albert Heijn market was three blocks north (as was a Starbucks where we could get an American-sized coffee). We were a twenty minute walk from the Centraal Station and the main art museums and even more good places to eat (try the Blin Queen for breakfast). The trams were on time and easy to use with a card tap. There was virtually no noise except for the occassional night-time "party" boat cruising the canal. As other review photos show, the rooms in the apartment were spacious and overall very comfortable. We had no issues with construction next door which has been completed and our neighbors were quiet. Our bed was comfortable and the space had drapes that allowed the space to be separated from the kitchen/dining/living spaces. All the appliances were in working order (the dryer was a challenge though). The bathroom had a nice skylight and was very clean. The living area was spacious with windows the full width of the apartment. The staff came as scheduled to maintain the rooms. The staff at the hotel was polite and personable. Our rooms were ready early so instead of having to wait til 3 to check in, were were taxied to the apartment before 9 am. Despite the warning about the steep stairs, we had no problems with the winder aspect nor the pitch even with our luggage. Th only negatives were what some might call being "picky." The dryer was a challenge to use even using the instructions and the web to help. Some of the kitchen items should be replaced - chipped dishware, broken chef's knife, stained saute pan. The lone fan was unusable since it was gunked up with dust and grease. The coffeemaker used pods that were unavailable at the local market. There was an iron but no ironing board. These items were what dropped my review to a "4." But overall, the value we got in a city known for expensive hotels (boutique hotels were over 400 Euros a night) was extraordinary. We paid less than that for an apartment!

Great location & value for money but could have been better. Suite 1-6 are on 1st & 2nd floors with steep stairs but they have a view & windows which open. Unfortunately we were in 7 which was in the basement with low ceilings & no windows for ventilation. They provided a fan but could have benefited from an air purifier. The regular housekeeping was lousy & needed constant request. The reception was located at Canal Hotel & communicating with them was tedious via email. A direct line would have been helpful, The kitchen was handy for preparing breakfast & meals but could have benefited from additional cooking utensils i.e. spatula & ladle & salt/pepper. The safe wasn’t secured. The coffee machine was great & the location to restaurants, shops, canals & Tram 4. Would come back again but would request Suites 1-6.

We had the worst experience possible, stayed in the basement apartment (good size) but there was a problem with the drainage. The bath wouldn't drain, followed by each toilet and finally water was coming up through the carpet. The owners said they would correct it the next day, then was told it was a Sunday and no plumbers were available (a quick google search proved this not to be the case) but we could check out if we wanted. Eventually we were given another apartment but only for that night and only to use the toilet (which involved going outside). We had to go to Canal Hotel to collect the extra key as they had no staff to drop it off at our apartment - disrupting a family reunion lunch. We were given a 50% discount for the first 3 nights (we were there 7) until the plumbing was sorted. We both then fell very ill - we cannot prove it was the apartment but the symtpoms were chronic diarrhoea, associated with exposure to raw sewage. The deposit process for this property is for the hotel's benefit - the vagaries of the excahnage rate mean the 500 Euro deposit can be either lower or higher when they refund it - the property were not quick at refundiing.

My friends and I booked Amsterdam Canal Suites for our 30th birthday trip to Amsterdam. We were a group of 7, and booked 2 suites for 7/3-7/10. It was the perfect set up with enough space for our whole group to be together and hang out. HOWEVER, on night 2 my friend woke me up at 2am panicking that there were bugs in the bed and I needed to get up. We called the front desk right away and they said there were no available rooms to move to, and that we had to wait until the morning staff came. The person I spoke to suggested that we put another sheet over the bed and try to sleep. Obviously we did not sleep that night. We left on our scheduled day trip the next morning and the hotel sent someone that confirmed that there were in fact bed bugs. They offered a full refund and also told us that the rooms were treated and we were able to stay there if we wanted. Obviously we did not. We returned to collect our belongings and noticed the sheets that had the bed bugs were left on the bathroom floor. This experience put a damper on our entire trip. We ended up having to cover the cost of our own laundry and luggage sanitation and moved hotels twice because no one could accommodate us for the rest of our trip due to the large amount of people in town to see Taylor Swift. I returned home covered in bed bug bites. I would not recommend staying here as I question their cleanliness standards.

My overall stay was good for what I needed. I needed a kitchen & laundry. It had both. The location was centrally located. Very walkable area. I did have a few issues. We were there during a heatwave and the suite had no AC or fans. The heat was unbearable in the apartment so we had to buy fans. The stairs in the picture is not like the ones in the suite. its spiral with no railing on one side so not suitable for little children. The walls in the suite were dirty. I couldn't figure out what all the stains were then I realized, Mosquitos blood. If you open the windows there are a lot of mosquitos that come in. The cleaners come every 3 days. I didn't mind being that I usually don't let housekeeping come often but others might mind.

Many good things to say; nice bed, lard room, nice kitchen, very quiet yet a good location, but i do have to say that the room wasn’t very clean. Mirror was dirty, couch was dirty, ceiling in the shower was dirty, and the lower matress wasn’t clean at all.

The Good: 1) Great location !! 4 tram stops from Centraal Station ! Suite is right on the canal system ! Wonderful old home with lots of history, I'm sure. Great restaurants & supermarkets near by. Great bakery at the corner up the street. 2) Very attentive staff. Any issues, they were on top of it. You can contact them any hour of the day. 3) Quiet neighborhood at night. You can hear the early morning birds as you wake in the morning. Feels like Heaven on earth. 4) The Dutch are very kind & classy people. The Not So Good: 1) Stairs, stairs & more stairs. Because the homes in Amsterdam are narrow & very tall , there are a lot of stairs. This suite is definitely not for older people , or any people with mobility issues. 2) Upkeep in the suite could be better. The frying pan supplied in the kitchen was worn & heavily stained. There was a nasty clog in the shower/ bathtub. Drained very, very slowly. Kitchen cabinet door almost caas I am not a person that dwells on the imperfections. Overall a very good experience ! Would do it again in a heart beat.

We had booked a hotel room as part of a package deal thru Easyjet, for our Wedding Anniversay. My wife emailed asking if it were possible to have an upgrade, and we were given the top apartment, and a free taxi t the location. It was splendid.. the location and views were unbeatable, and so much more than just a hotel room. You made our trip with your kindness. Thank you so much. J @ N.
