Crowne Plaza Anchorage-Midtown

My hotel room bathroom have lot of hair. I ask the hotel front team to clean room but no body show up. The food in the Juno is cold and undercooked.

This hotel is located a few miles from the airport and there is a free airport shuttle. It isn’t near anything as far as I can tell, and is located on a busy and very loud road. The rooms are spacious, I admit. But the furnishings and the property as a whole are badly outdated. And nothing has been maintained. The desk chair cushion and the seats on the hotel shuttle were worn and even split. The bathroom water pressure was weak. This hotel is used for conferences but the amenities are poor. The fitness center has treadmills and that’s it - no weights, benches or other equipment. The pool is typical for a hotel but looked rather grimy. The breakfast buffet was not the worst I’ve had but had limited selection and quality was hit-or-miss.

When I booked this place, the booking was for a room on a higher floor with access to the lounge. The lounge has since been removed but at no point did the hotel tell me this and neither did **********. Communication was pretty bad since the hotel never responded to my emails or messaged. So only found out about it when we checked in. Check in was very disorganised. We were supposed to get breakfast vouchers since this was a pre-paid breakfast inclusive rate. The check in desk initially didn't give me one since she told me that it was not a breakfast inclusive rate and fortunately I was able to show the print out of the booking. She then conceded reluctantly that it was indeed breakfast inclusive rate and gave me one voucher. It later transpired that it is one voucher per person and since they were two of us, it should have been 2. So had to go back to the front desk and the other helpful lady sorted it out. We stayed here twice in 5 days and has same issue both times. After all of that, got to the room and it was smelling badly of sewage in the bathroom. So then had to move rooms and it was better after that. Free parking is good and there are plenty of space. Breakfast was ok although could be better. Coffee was pretty disgusting and so after that just stuck with tea although the water was luke warm!!! Rooms are a bit dated and could really do with an upgrade. The lobby however looks like it has been updated. Overall, probably the worst Crowne Plaza I have ever stayed in and was disappointing. Staff generally were ok although a couple looked very disinterested. Unfortunately cannot recommend it.

Where do I start with this review. Firstly, believe all the negative things said. Secondly, use this hotel as last port of call - I’m sure surely you can find a better one. Thirdly, avoid the restaurant and some of its staff. Harsh yes but very true. This hotel cannot be a true Crowne plaza and if so they should be ashamed of it. From the desk greeting to the time we left I think only two staff members, one a young man, were friendly and cleanly presented. The corridor to our cell, I mean bedroom was like an airport landing *****. The old air conditioning units were so loud we could hear from our room, (also leaving a smell of fried chips in its midst!). We changed rooms but no better still noisy. Our sheets were a shiny satiny nylon which supercharged your hair overnight. In between which had a thin white fleece blanket?! Uncovered of course. The bathroom had mould in the corners of the shower plus cracked floor tiles and our sink had a lovely designer crack in it. The towels were very thin and small. We were excited to try the breakfast and of course glad we had included it within our price…. Arriving in the morning we were greeted by a slovenly waitress who clearly had worked through the night as not had time to shower and change… Our drinks were given and after taking some, just freshly changed on the breakfast counter, oatmeal I quickly realised it was cold. I asked for a fresh portion from the kitchen which again was tepid. I asked for a jug of hot milk trying my best not to throw yet another bowl of food away hoping I could revive it. We also asked for 2nd cuppa and she put the cups down so roughly water was spilt from them. Alas the milk was tepid and after hearing a laugh in the kitchen from the waitress, coincidentally around the time my milk was coming out, I was very apprehensive about using it anyway! As the breakfast counter was poorly stocked with tepid food and poor selection of fruit and yoghurt plus the floor area was grubby we decided to stick to the plastic sealed tubs of cereal. After watching the waitress go round wiping the tables without anti bac spray and using the same cloth no rinsing the levels of hygiene were none existent and consistent with how the whole hotel presented itself. Grubby, tired and complacent sums it up.

I left a small bag behind when we left for the airport at 3:30 am. and notified them within 2 hours of leaving. The front desk told me they don’t personally handle looking for it or returning it and I needed to notify a website lostmystuff. I did that the next day and heard nothing. A month later and nobody found it. I have gotten no result and only the run around trying to get some kind of real result. I am 100% sure it was there and feel it was very rude for them not to look for it or leave a note for the cleaning crew. Will never stay at an ihg hotel again.

Expected more from Crowne Plaza as their UK hotels are much better. The room was nice enough. However the corridors and pool area needs a facelift. The Jacuzzi is useless compared to others I have used and the gym is a joke with barely anything in it. I found the staff ok. However we asked for a blanket as the room was cold and they brought up a mattress topper instead. If money is no object this hotel is ok. However it's worth looking at Air BNB in Anchorage instead as this and the other hotels are so expensive and Crowne Plaza is not worth what they are charging (we were there in September).

Decent hotel though noting exceptional. The cost was acceptable based the overall quality and the price of others in the area. Traffic noise in the room facing Airport Rd was loud. Interior is dated. Reception staff was very nice and helpful.

Policies were not clearly laid out, so we got charged an extra fee at check in for not showing up on time. Front staff answering the phone is rude. Room service barely got done and there was a visible stain on the sheets of my bed. Overall the experience was negative, and I won't go back if I don't have to.

While property needs updating, it is the staff that makes this hotel worth staying at. The service and food in their restaurant was excellent. Beds were very comfortable. The hotel is not far from the airport, there was a free shuttle to the hotel. Anchorage is very easy to get around, we used Uber.
