The staff here are wonderful. They go above and beyond to ensure guests have their questions answered and their needs met. The grounds and building itself are amazing. Very old-school Europe. There are some things of which you need to be aware when booking. 1) The hotel is located about a 10 min drive from Bayeux. If you do not have a car, you will be paying for taxis. There is no shuttle. 2) The hotel is located very close to a moderately busy road and has no a/c (typical of many European hotels). We had no issues with the lack of a/c except at night when we were trying to sleep. Road noise will keep you awake if your room is in the main building. All the rooms in the hotel building face the road. There was a small floor fan provided in the room, but with the windows closed it was rather toasty. If you are traveling in warmer temps and require a/c, I would not suggest booking here. 3) The furnishings are dated and the flooring needs to be replaced. It was threadbare in many locations, both in our room and along the corridors. 4) Showers are hand showers (also typical of many European hotels), and to assess the shower you have to scale a rather tall bathtub. If you have mobility issues, this is not the hotel for you. 5) The lighting in our room was dismal. We had two lamps located against the headboard, the floor lamp switch did not work. The lighting in the bathroom was plentiful, but seeing at night in the room required use of our cell phone flashlights. 6) Breakfast in France is not an American experience. Don’t go into this thinking your breakfast buffet will be similar to that in America. It is more fruit, cheese and small pastries. The hotel does offer a couple of hot options, but they are limited to scrambled eggs and some bacon/sausage. I have seen complaints here about the price for the breakfast, but don’t think that will change if you go into town. In fact, there are only a couple of restaurants offering breakfast in town and they charge comparable prices. If you are not a big breakfast person, there are grocery stores around and a coffee maker in your room. In all, I would not call this a luxury hotel and it is not worth the 4.5 stars in rating. However, it was a comfortable stay if you are looking for an authentic European hotel experience.
