There are only two rooms for overnight accommodation at the Royal Oak, both of which are accessed up an outside short metal staircase from the beer garden. The rooms are rustic rather than modern, which is what we expected. The room had a 7 ft ceiling. The room contained a large bed with comfortable pillows, two bedside tables with lamps, tea/coffee making facilities, fan, electric heater, TV, plenty of power points, iron, hairdryer, wardrobe and a good guest information folder. The ensuite bathroom had an instant electric hot water shower above a low bath. Shampoo, conditioner, body gel and body lotion were all supplied, together with two large bath towels and two hand towels. The internet was good but you had to reset if you closed it down. Breakfast in the morning was plentiful – a choice of cereals, orange juice, toast, tea, coffee and a very filling hot meal of fried egg, bacon, baked beans, tomato, sausage and mushrooms. Our hosts were very friendly and obliging. We enjoyed our stay very much. In regard to parking, there is private parking for 4 to 5 cars at the rear of the building, accessed through Pytt’s Lane via Swan Lane from High Street as Witney Street is one-way towards High Street. From the Royal Oak, it is an easy level walk to the main street. There is also a public carpark nearby.
