I did not expect too much from a room above a pub. I am realistic and expected it to be cheap and cheerful (well not so cheap), but I did not expect to feel unsafe. When I stayed (a lone woman) with my daughter 13 years old on a Friday night I felt unsafe. It cost £85 for one night in a family room. This is for room only - breakfast not included and there is no parking at hotel. When arrived it seemed ok. I was told there was karaoke that night until midnight. I’m ok with that. We were shown to our room, led up through the bar to upstairs where the accommodation is. I was told that the door that leads from bar to accommodation is kept shut to stop any customers from the bar getting to the accommodation area. We went out to a family gathering. On our return at 11pm, the door was wedged open. I closed it, but then it bothered me that as soon as I was in my room someone could open it and wedge it open again, therefore allowing anyone to wander around the hotel rooms. This is what made me feel unsafe. I eventually got to sleep after drunken people outside on the street had gone at about 1am. I got woken up in middle of night by someone laughing repeatedly really loudly and shouting. After ignoring it for a long time thinking they would eventually settle down - it didn’t- I had to go and knock on their door and tell them to be quiet at 2.45am. There was also a loud humming noise which I hadn’t noticed on arrival, but when it was quiet in the night became really annoying. In the morning I noticed the bedroom was over the external fans, which never switched off. The room itself was dirty in some areas. The electric socket that the kettle plugs into looks like it hadn’t been dusted for about 6 months. I complained to ***********. They very quickly refunded me a small amount. They said that they had contacted the manager of the hotel on my behalf, but the manager never got back to them. This hotel is ok if you don’t really want to sleep, or if you’re going to get so drunk that you pass out. Possibly not the best place to stay if you are travelling on your own or with children.
