The Bushel by Greene King Inns

A rather tired hotel part of a chain so have to wait for refurbishment. Room was OK but had road noise as ill-fitting single glazed windows. Worst aspect was mould above shower and ginormous wide crack about 2 feet in shower tray which had been botched. Very off-putting . Breakfast good variety and flexible. Fairly clean. 5 mins walk to town centre

Staying at the Bushel for 2 nights and have found it excellent. The room is very nicely decorated and the bed very comfy and a great shower and bathroom. The staff are very friendly and gave us advise on the trains to Cambridge. We had food on our first evening and it was good , also between 4 - 7 Monday to Thursday its 2 for 1 on certain drinks. We loved Bury St Edmunds and can highly recommend staying at the Bushel.

We visited The Bushel intending to have some food. We placed our order using the app and shortly after the order was placed a man approached our table waving a receipt in our faces asking 'could we not have gone to the bar to place the order' and then stormed off. We asked a lady who was serving the nearby table what the problem was and she said it was because they were short staffed and didn't like the app being used on a Sunday. We are not mind readers and were not to know this. I must say she was equally as rude as the man had been. We were no longer happy to stay and went to ask to cancel the order. The sarcastic American dared to act surprised at our decision. He had absolutely no customer service skills at all. An email was also sent to Greene King regarding the treatment we received to which we have had no response.

Really enjoyed the stay. The landlord, Steve, was a perfect host and was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. The room was lovely and warm on a freezing night. To top it all off breakfast and coffee was super. Thanks Steve- will definitely be back sometime in the future

I enjoyed a two night stay at the Bushel, in beautiful Bury St Edmunds which itself I highly recommend as a town to visit. This is a historic pub, with rooms. As such I expected some pub noise - however this was actually minimal, with the only noise being the completely understandable floorboard creaks from upstairs and the clanking of some of the plumbing. I was facing the street and whilst there were some revellers during the night passing by it wasn’t too bad. The room was characterful with the highlights being the excellent overhead shower and the very comfortable bed. The room had a tea tray, and handily an iron. The wifi worked reliably. Some of the decor perhaps could do with a refresh but it didn’t detract from the room and it’s period beams, fireplace etc. The staff were generally friendly, especially the breakfast host. Breakfast itself was excellent with a good quality cooked breakfast, or lighter options / continental. The pub is located very close to - basically within - central Bury St Edmunds and not far from the railway station. I would certainly stay again - would probably give nearer 4.5 if I could :)

Was in Room 1 which was spotless and the Shower was fantastic. Dawn the housekeeper was great and kept the room spotless. Bed was very comfortable and the room was warm. The tv was just the right size and the lighting was perfect. Would highly recommend a stay.

I visited the Bushel today as I was looking for somewhere I could do a little work and have a drink and snack. I was immediately greeted by a very friendly team member or perhaps the manager. He certainly came across as a manager. I think his name was Josh, he was American. I can’t remember the last time I had such friendly service. An amazing effort all round. I teach and assess hospitality, I never really switch off. If I had come to assess the pub or the team today, they would have received 100% . It makes me happy to see that some places still have staff that go that extra mile. Well done!

Stayed for one night in the Old Speckled Hen room, had a great meal, friendly owner, good service, lovely setting and a few drinks. I would recommend this to my friends. A beautiful pub, in a good location for town, good selection of drinks !!

Stayed at The Bushel for 2 nights whilst visiting family nearby. We were a couple and older mother. The hotel was everything we needed it to be. Rooms were very well appointed and clean, bar staff were engaging, helpful and friendly (particularly Josh who went out of his way to chat and involve us in conversation). Bar selection of both drinks and food was excellent. Plenty of room inside and a choice of two different outside spaces to enjoy. Parking was easy with lots of space safely at the rear of the hotel and an easy walk (5mins)into the heart of Bury.
