We found the hotel online and called ahead to make a reservation the same day. The hotel is quirky and owner managed. They have been spending the last few years improving it and refurbishing it. Its gorgeous high position on the coast means it sees all weathers as well as offering fine views. If you like small, unusual, charming hotels, Craigard could be for you. I think it lacks personality and it could be more sympathetically restored. Personally I'd love to see it finished more classically and with better attention to detail. We didn't get to see one of the impressive sounding seaview suites but we were allocated a nice and comfortable dog friendly room at the back down a few corridors. Good - The location, the building is impressive, it's historical, it's independent, the bed was really comfortable, big bath sheets were great. Excellent WiFi signal in room 9. The view from the restaurant was excellent. The price was good out of season. The waitress at dinner was polite and helpful. Things we'd change - Replace the noisy bathroom fan for starters. Upgrade the electrics so all lights can be switched off from one bedside switch. Get a proper fire notice rather than a piece of paper pined to the pine wardrobe. The sever at breakfast was attired in Grey sweat pants and hoodie and trainers. Breakfast was just ok. Get a designer in to advise on the restaurant scene and replace the nasty dining chairs. Get the staff to be more attentive. I only had a main course at dinner because I never saw the waitress again all night after she'd checked my lamb was ok. The plate wasn't cleared and I wasn't offered dessert, coffee or a night cap....a missed opportunity for more revenue.
