Hotel & room are as to be expected from a French lower class hotel: room & bed are clean, but that is about it. Staff in the hotel are friendly and helpfull. However, we cannot recommend having dinner at the adjacent Campanile restaurant... Firstly the menu looks like the parking of a French gasstation (you will get lost...) so we opted for the 4-cheeses pizza. My pizza was burned, my wife thought hers was OK, till she tasted it and looked underneath (see foto). Upon complaining, we were given a new pizza, which was OK but the taste is not (to say the least) as spicy as you would expect. "Wall-filler" comes to mind... In the end, I payed our bill at the counter of the restaurant, after which my wife finished her wine. As we walked out, the cashier (gerant?) with whome I had only moments before settled our bill, came running after us saying we had not payed our bill... I found this to be embarassing. After showing him our bill, he calmed down. I did not believe him when he stated to be "desolée". A first and last stay for us at the Campanile in Chalon sur Saone.
