Kriti Hotel

Stayed here last month & it was a good choice; it is a large-ish hotel with the kind of close & personal attention you get in a boutique hotel. Since there were no open air concerts being held while we were there (arena is right next door), the hotel is in an otherwise quiet place, away from the very crowded tourist area. It is near Koum Kapi Beach & many seaside restaurants. Along with the breakfast room (breakfast is excellent with many, many choices of food items unique to Chania/Greece & a friendly staff), the gym is on the lower level, the pool is a good size & warm enough for us to swim our morning laps in, & the lobby has floor to ceiling windows, allowing in lots of natural light, a bar with super friendly bartenders & an outdoor patio up front. Our room was VERY tight, only about 18" (45+ cm) of space between the bed & utility counter so it was hard to pass by each other from one side of the room to the other & it had a step up into the bathroom that was a minor problem in the dark of night. We had a few problems in our room that housekeeping took care of immediately & that was much appreciated. There are other thoughtful amenities here: art in the dining room created by a local artist, a complimentary, small bottle of Raki & a bag of peanuts comes with the room as well as a bottle of water in the fridge (not all hotels on Crete do this due to water shortages on the island), management gave us coupons for free drinks after our room-problem issues, there is a pillow "menu" listing different types of pillows available for use as well as advice on how to achieve better sleep. Our (tight) room faced the pool & mountains, had high ceilings, had a wall with an imprint of a very pretty domed church & it appears most rooms have some kind of wall art like this. Glad we chose the Kriti Hotel.

I honestly can’t fault this lovely hotel, from Michelis who was so helpful offering us a room with a bigger balcony as we were staying 2 weeks, he is a credit to this hotel and always had a smile, all the staff were fabulous, clean, tidy, excellent choice of breakfast everyday and lots of places to sit, a gorgeous shallow pool with lots of beds and beanbags, never noisy. We stayed in room 110 looking over the main road and a sea view to Koum Kapi beach and tavernas and across from the open air theatre where for the first week they had live music and theatre and dancing in the evening. It’s a 10 minute walk by turning left, you can choose the three roads to the centre if you cross the road, the first road is where the market is on Saturdays, the second takes you to lots of bars and wonderful restaurants and the third challidon takes you down to the fountain. Towels are available at no extra cost for the pool and the electronic safe and the ceiling fan and easily controllable air con is all included, there’s a well stocked mini bar too. We took a hanging collapsible clothes storer which hangs next to the fridge in the wardrobe so never had any issues with space. The door excludes any traffic noise which isn’t much only when the locals leave the theatre around midnight. There’s a 3 Euro climate tax per day to pay on check out but we knew this before. We loved every single thing about this hotel and made some great friends from around the world. We were very sad to leave The Kriti and would come back again with no hesitation. We arrived and when booking in was advised we had been upgraded to a superior room which was spacious. Albeit the view was at the back of the hotel and had pool/mountain views. This however was fine as had the shade later on in the day when we like to sit out on the small but adequate sized balcony. On it were two chairs and a table. Cupboard space: plenty with room for long dresses. We did take extra hangers. However no drawers which would have been nice. Within cupboard area was a fridge which was large enough. Bathroom had cubicle shower and miniature toiletries supplied. Towels changed every day if required. The room was equipped with free safe, aircon and ceiling fan. Two different pillows on the queen sized bed each to choose from. Maids cleaned the room every day to a good standard. Free towels are available for pool, just ask at reception and can dispose of them in laundry basket in pool toilet area. Pool toilet area also has a shower cubicle so can be used if you are on a late check out as the outside door to toilet area is lockable and plenty of room to get dried and changed. Breakfast was in the basement overlooking the pool area. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and enough variety. Consisted of eggs x 3 sorts, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, hash browns, breads, plus continental foods together with pastries/chocolates and fruits. Coffee/tea and fresh juices. Reception area has comfortable seating together with some tables and chairs with large tv and bar area. Location of the hotel was perfect as just outside the edge of the town and also next to the Saturday markets. Two minute walk to the nearest small beach (no beds) however had showers available. 25 minute walk across the town to get to larger beach (Nea Chora) which have beds available at a cost between €10-€15 for 2 beds and an umbrella. Hotel close to plenty of restaurants and bars. Overall a lovely holiday.

Exceptional 3☆ hotel. Perfectly placed for old harbour, old town and town centre, all within 5 - 10 mins walk. The hotel itself was lovely and clean. We didn't use the bar or snack service (we will next time) but the breakfast facilities were great and the prices for snacks/drinks were cheaper than most places and looked delicious. All staff were fantastic and the room cleaners were outstanding. I'll def book this hotel again if I come back to beautiful Chania.

Highly recommended, it's modern, clean, centrally located and the staff is wonderful! Parking is available close by. The daily breakfast was one of the best! The staff is very helpful with directions and recommendations. You will not be disappointed!
