This was a rough one. My husband and I have stayed here many times over the last 8 years, since we can’t stay with family in town due to pet allergies. It’s always been fine. Not fancy, not amazing, but fine. This time around, things were really subpar. Although the staff was friendly, basically everything went wrong. 1. We got in late on Thursday night and I checked the bed, as I always do, and found a huge stain on the mattress (pictured). After close examination, we determined it had to be coffee or something similar, and decided to just deal with it. It was past midnight and we were exhausted. I reported it the next day so as not to get charged for it, and was told “this hotel is closing and changing over to a new chain in a few months so everything will be new soon.” That’s nice for everyone else, but does that mean things are just going to get worse until then? 2. The next day, I took a shower and found the water was just barely tepid. Meanwhile my husband’s shower alternated between icy and scalding. 3. Here’s the big one: at 3:30 am on our second night there, the phone rang. Startled awake, I answered, only to hear that it was a “scheduled wake-up call.” When I went downstairs to the desk the next morning I asked how this could have happened, the person at the desk said that it “must have been kids playing around upstairs” and they “were really sorry, but yes, they did put in a wake-up call for our room.” We don’t have kids, and how they thought it seemed appropriate to take instruction from a random child, I don’t know. We did not sleep well that night. Or any night of the stay, really. 4. The next night our keycards stopped working. 5. The last morning, I couldn’t find anyone to check out with, so l left the keys at the desk. Hope that was allowed! While we were waiting, there were another couple of people also waiting there because their keycards stopped working too. 6. The elevator was out of order on our last morning there. I don’t mind walking, but I don’t particularly want to lug all my bags up three flights of stairs. Luckily we were already on our way out by then and only had to walk down the stairs. And then some general comments: - the bed was not comfortable. I woke up with aches and pains, and the pillows felt incredibly cheap. - the bathroom didn’t look super clean. - I could hear all the conversations clearly in the room next to ours, and it sounded like their bathroom wasn’t clean, either. We’re not fussy about noise, but if you’re looking for a quiet, private stay, just know that this is probably not it. - the water pressure of the lukewarm shower was not good. - you have to request housekeeping if you want it. We don’t typically utilize housekeeping during our stay, but if this matters to you, you might want to book elsewhere. Actually, that’s kind of the summary of this stay: you might want to book elsewhere.
