Bartley Lodge Hotel

Bartley Lodge is a long standing and well frequented hotel so yes it needs some t l c and the bath enamel in our room was worn but was spotlessly clean as was the rest of our room We had a room that faced the terrace and garden which was very comfortable The only thing was the mattress was very soft and would probably benefit from a topper ( On check out we informed reception of this and was assured there should have been one and that this would be rectified ) The hotel is comfortable, the food quality excellent and we found all the staff very welcoming and strive to provide the best customer service they can. We found them all very approachable and willing to do everything they can to make your stay an enjoyable one Would we return yes definitely

We stayed here Weds-Fri using a Buy a Gift voucher which we topped up for an extra night. The hotel itself is nice with character and is certainly imposing on the approach. Dinner on the first night was lovely with generous servings for the main (pork belly & lamb cooked two ways). The bed was large & comfortable, giving a good nights sleep. However, there’s much work to be done. The strange thing about this place is that you can’t seem to charge a single thing to the room & everything needs to be paid for there & then. Certainly a first for me whilst staying at a hotel. The bath was in serious need of with re-enamelling or replacing such was the poor state it was in. My partner couldn’t turn the bath taps off properly as they were so stiff. Staff are pretty hard to find and it took a walk around the hotel to find somebody to serve us a drink before dinner. There’s no bell at reception to attract any attention. There’s a craft gin menu on display by the bar proclaiming to offer local gins (roughly 7 from memory). Not a single one was available and we were offered Beefeater instead… The wine menu is not extensive by any stretch but offers a few staples. However, a pretty basic order of 2 glasses of Pinot Noir resulted in 2 glasses of Pinot Grigio being poured with the person serving not knowing that PN is indeed a red. A bottle of wine was ordered with dinner and just plonked on the table without being opened & no fresh glasses were offered. Breakfast was merely ok but a Continental is more than just tiny pastries & bread; where was the cheese & meat selection?! The cooked breakfast was acceptable. However, what is not acceptable is being charged extra for a coffee whilst on a B&B basis!! I have stayed at many different hotels in my time and have never, ever been charged extra for a coffee! There is a cafetière for 2 on the menu but, according to staff, that hasn’t been offered for over a year! Other reviews reference the lift being out of service and this was the case during our stay. Stairs aren’t an issue for us but what if somebody was staying on the upper floors with numerous and/or heavy luggage? Would I stay here again? Not unless serious steps were taken to improve the overall level of service.

We had a very pleasant weekend stay at the Bartley Lodge Hotel. The food and service were excellent.

Stayed at this hotel for my daughter's wedding. The marriage itself was amazing but your hotel needs to be shut down and have a total refurb of the bedrooms where a disgrace would never stay or recommend this place to anyone

Me and my now husband had a intimate wedding with just 10 of our friends at Southampton Westgate Hall and after that had a intimate dinner at Bartley Lodge Hotel, Orangery Room. Staff were absolutely nice and served us really well. They even helped me put my DIY table deco for me to achieve good intimate wedding aesthetics and gave us a surprise wedding card, wine and chocolate on our room. Food was amazing as well. All 12 of us stayed at hotel and my friends find the place really beautiful. Overall, it was a really good experience. Highly recommended

On Saturday 5th October we were looking for somewhere for afternoon tea. We saw the sign on the main road advertising various things including afternoon tea. We followed the driveway to hotel, which is very imposing. On entering we were greeted by a member of staff who was very friendly and directed to the reception. The girl on reception pointed us to the dining room. On entering we were greeted by I assume, by a waitress. We asked if they did afternoon tea and without saying anything to us she went to find the maitre d'. We again asked if they served afternoon tea, he said yes but needed 24 hours notice, which we understand. However after a few minutes of trying to explain that all we wanted was either a cream tea or a cup of tea we were shown to a rather dismal room/hallway which was chilly and somewhat unwelcoming rather than the conservatory/garden where everyone else was sitting. The confusion continued when we were given the the dessert menu! We were told there 'might' be some brownies ( which we didn't want!!) Finally the person we saw earlier carrying some chairs explained to the maitre' d what we were looking for and finally offered scones which were pleasant along with tea. We were shocked to be told the bill was £28 for a cream tea for two! Having had cream teas around the UK and the world this was outrageous. Sadly we won't be returning.

We stayed for 4 nights had a lovely time in a lovely property the only thing I would say is a handrail in the bathroom to make getting in and out of the shower would be a great help for some

The Hotel on arrival looked very nice .The receptionist was very polite and a pleasure to speak to. The Hotel however after looking around was in a very tired state of decor and in need of some updating and repair in may places .The ground floor was in an excellent condition but the rest of the building needed a lot of attention.

No one to meet and greet on arrival, no bell or buzzer to alert staff we had arrived, this was the same for some other guests, which we noticed when passing through reception. Given shampoo and conditioner to wash/shower as the soap delivery had not arrived. Eventually (after complaining)given a very small bar of soap to wash/shower. Room was okay but could and should have been cleaner. Bug found crawling on the bed. Breakfast cost is £16.50 per person, not worth it. If you want a speciality coffee it is another £3.80! £20.30 for a decent coffee with your breakfast. Premier Inn and Travelodge much better value for £10 to £12.50 including speciality coffee's. Overall a poor guest experience for £365 for 2 nights B&B. Lovely secluded location, but that in no way justifies the cost. Not
