Hotel LIVVO Risco del Gato Suites

This place is so different. Lovely spacious accommodation. Very clean and comfortable. Offering some nights a la carte some buffet and BBQ. Choice of meat ,fish or vegetarian for main courses . Salads help yourself . Beautiful homemade soups of which I do not normally partake in hotels, but this was so fresh and gluten-free. Accommodated my allergies and gluten-free without problems. Excellent service by the waiting on staff. Breakfast with live cooking station for bacon and eggs not sitting in a ban marie but served fresh and hot. Lovely wines not overly priced. Private out door sitting area with sun beds and outdoor shower but we also used the garden which outside our gate was also private without public path if you needed to move with the sun ( block 3 ) Only 1 hiccup involving the bathroom jacuzzi tap flooding the corridor but the offending tap was isolated the next morning leaving the spray head only for filling which was not a problem, a change of room was offered if I was not happy with the repair which I declined as I loved block 3 best. All in all one of the best experiences we have had in a long time. Only thing missing was the bar which was in a lovely area but never open.would have been a nice change than going back to our room after din ner as we were put on second sitting for dinner . There was one bar near the hotel but we preferred to go into costa cama before dinner or to the beach bar with occasional live singer then taxi back when dark as the pavements are very dangerous to navigate even with a torch. We found Esmerelda beach perfect for hot days. A fabulous walk to Sotavento lagoon easy enough . Or windy days stay in our garden and laze by the pool which we had mostly to ourselves. I would definitely return with out doubt

We enjoyed our week at the hotel, the weather was perfect 28 degrees and sunny every day, 20 degrees at night, but always a nice cooling breeze throughout the day. We stayed DBB, and the food is a good standard, with friendly staff. Breakfast is a buffet with a variety of options, and there is a chef cooking eggs to order. Dinner is a mix of buffets and 4 course a la carte with a choice of 2 or 3 options. Each suite has a private courtyard with 2 sun beds, ours had sun from 10:30 to 3:30, and there was also a table and 2 chairs outside in our little garden overlooking the sea in the distance. The bathroom had 2 sinks, a shower, a jacuzzi bath for 2, and a toilet, with a window looking out on the private courtyard. The bedroom was large with 2 double beds, with sliding doors to the private courtyard, and there was a lounge with a fridge and settee overlooking the gardens. The air conditioning was very efficient. There are 2 outdoor pools and an indoor pool, which were not used by many guests, so always plenty of sun beds. There is also a small spa, a gym, and an outdoor hot tub that you have to ask to be turned on. The complex is very well kept and always clean and tidy. There is a Spar supermarket within 10 minutes walk. Costa Calma is a small resort with several large hotels directly on the beach. Our hotel was set behind these, about 15 minute walk to the beach and 20 minutes walk back because of the steep slope. The town beach is long with golden sand and lots of sunbeds (15 euros per day for 2 beds and an umbrella). There is another quieter lovely beach just beyond the Hotel Esmeralda with the same bed/umbrella options (usually all taken by 11am). Above this is a very good restaurant/bar during the day. There are several small sandy coves before you get to the miles of Sotavento beach; just watch out for the tide times! The hotel is very quiet, with hardly any music and nothing organised in the evening, not even a bar. The restaurant closes at 21:30. Some may like this, but for us it was too quiet. The other downside is the distance from the beach, especially in the hot sun. We enjoyed our stay, but would choose a hotel on the beach in future, with a little more going on at night.

This is our third visit to Risco del Gato in 13 months. We do not understand why it is so quiet although we are delighted because it means it is such a wonderful relaxing holiday. You can sunbathe completely privately in your own three roomed bungalow apartment with its enclosed large private patio. As usual the food was abundant, and delicious. During the week the offer oscillates between speciality all-you-can eat buffet nights - Italian, Canarian, Barbecue - and set meals with a choice. A few British folk but mainly German, Spanish and French. Probably because the big UK tour operators do not frequent here. We use Secret Escapes. If you are looking for an all night bar, all day drinks at the pool, evening entertainment, or music blaring out all day, this is not the place for you. Hiring a car is cheap and there is so much to see in this quiet beautiful island. The beautiful and long sand beach of Costa Calma is at the foot of the Hotel's landscaped gardens but there are very many other fabulous and isolated sandy beaches within a short car ride. Yes the hotel is showing signs of age and is dated but rather quaintly so. But everything is painted regularly, there is no detritus anywhere and it is very clean. We have paid twice as much and stayed in a posh five star hotel in Gran Canaria where no light came into the room and the shower blocked up and overflowed into the room every time it was used. When Risco was built the best of room furnishings were used and they still stand the test of time. No showers overflowing for Risco! Oh did I mention the exclusive outdoor shower on our patios by the way! Love this place.

If you are looking for a quiet hotel with really good service then you will enjoy this hotel. The hotel has an indoor heated pool and two outdoor pools as well as a hot tub that boasts a beautiful view. There was always loungers available and no silly sun lounge reserving! The rooms are kept very clean and the bathrooms have lovely jacuzzi baths, although patience is needed as it takes a while to fill up. Breakfast is a buffet with so many delicious choices. Dinner options are limited to just a few choices which change daily, however the food is of great quality and the waiters were very friendly and efficient. The hotel staff even helped arrange a hire car for us at a very reasonable rate.

This was our third visit. A great place if you want quiet, your own space but with the facilities of a hotel. We were half board and the food was very good - 4 nights per week waiter service and 3 nights a buffet. Only mild complaint is with waiter service it is too fast! The location is great and we went on long walks in both directions along the beach but to the south you need to time it with the low tides to get around the peninsulars We always opt for the block of rooms in the 300s as the patios are much more private. The courtyard areas cannot be overlooked at all. As others have said the place would really benefit from a bar at night. Another great stay helped by the staff who are all really friendly and give great service.

Our 2nd visit! We love the accommodation here with the private courtyard and spacious rooms. Doesn't feel like a hotel! Fabulous breakfast, Cava too but need to replace coffee mach. Welcomed by Evelyn who is a joy; my "Little Miss Sunshine"
