Redcastle Hotel

I stayed overnight on the 18th of August 2024 which was a Sunday - Monday costing €235 and although I am not one to normally review I feel like this really needs noted in regards to our experience which was a real let down. Please note that this was a couple staying and therefore the experience may be different depending what you are looking for out of your stay. When we checked in we were underwhelmed by then hotel appearance but tried to remain upbeat. After seeing our room we quickly felt like this hotel did not meet our expectations of a four star hotel and was completely overpriced. The images used on the website were obviously edited or took many years ago. The room itself was run down and missing the small things that you would expect from a 4 star hotel. The dark furniture was chipped, doors dirty and in general very basic. Within 30 mins of check in we spoke to the lady on reception and asked if would be possible to check out, we explained our situation and advised it really isn’t the experience we were expecting. We didn’t take this decision lightly as we had travelled 2 hours for a get away which we hoped would help us unwind. We were advised that we could not get a full or partial refund, however we were swapped rooms. The new room provided the exactly same style and quality as the last one and therefore did not improve our stay. We went to the pool, the facilities again were basic and outdated. It was not relaxing but lots of families and kids presented to be enjoying the pool which was great. The sauna and steam room were small but done the job. The waterfall shower was broken and the jacuzzi was jets in the main pool. The children were using cannons around the pool. There was individuals making up ham rolls on the pool side with a packed of ham and deli rolls. Although I appreciate that this was a good way for them to get some lunch and entertain the kids it was both unhygienic and ruined our pool experience. Staff did not do anything about this. Furthermore there was patio doors at the pool side leading to an outside walk beside the water. Guests/member of the public were walking through these on the pool edge to get from the outside to the reception which again was unhygienic. This was at most a council leisure centre experience, leisure centres would actually provide a higher level of hygiene with shoe covers and no food allowed expectations. In my opinion the hotel is at most a three star hotel, I believe that the golf course is the only aspect impacting this hotel remaining at 4 star and the facilities and decor themselves is basic, outdated and scruffy. Basic cleaning was up to par but it was clear that more in depth cleaning had not been completed for a long time and freshen up paintings were outstanding throughout the hotel. Happy with everything, just the room on - 1. We tend to go for offers so reason why, Room is lovely clean and fresh everyday well equipped, Staff really nice and knowledgeable especially with gluten and dairy free options which were grand. Even scones available. Thankyou

3 of us enjoyed lunch here, the other 2 being brilliant cooks themselves! We all had the same main and agreed it was delicious and just right for lunch time (pulled pork). We shared 3 outstanding desserts between us. The carrot cake was so rich it would have passed for sticky toffee pudding; really first class. The chocolate mousse with passionfruit curd was executed perfectly and surpassed most. The apple tart was tasty too but the carrot cake got the standing ovation. Lovely staff, lovely food, and that unbeatable view over Lough Foyle in the sun - fantastic!!

We booked the spa & afternoon tea and it was absolutely amazing from start to finish. Myself and my Fiancé were booked In for the hydrotherapy baths then chilled out in the relaxation room before going to the sauna then enjoying a swim in the pool with stunning views. Windows from ceiling to floor it was beautiful. After that we had afternoon tea, every bite was delicious, again with amazing views overlooking the water. Will definitely be booking again. Staff were so welcoming and accommodating. It was incredible and just what was needed ☺️ We also got a great deal for this. thank you.

The room was good as was the food - we went to the swimming pool and sauna and really enjoyed it. However 2 things ruined our stay - the fire alarm went off in the evening and we assumed it was a test but realised when it was going off again at 5am that it wasn’t a test - either the hotel was on fire or there was a serious problem with their fire alarm system. What did the hotel do about it? Nothing as far as I could tell! When we reported it to reception as we checked out and they informed us that they knew about it and that someone would be out today to rectify the problem.

Great hotel, lovely helpful staff, beautiful location, excellent food. Some areas could do with a little updating. Kids running wild in the restaurant seemed to be the norm. I had pre booked a sea view room with bath only to be told there was none available on arrival. A little bit disappointed with that. Overall 9/10

Hi We had two nights in a family suite in May. The setting is beautiful! Food was great with good choices in both the bar and the restaurant for adults and kids. The pool was good and decent for kids too. The staff were very good and very friendly. The only minor disappointment was our room which very noisy with noise from the adjoining health club, laundry room and even next door where we could hear voices clearly and the shower running ! The bathroom was as a little tired looking and needed a deep clean!

Staff could not have been nicer, in the reception, bar and restaurant. Room was spotlessly clean with an espresso coffee machine and kettle and a carton of water each, which was a nice touch. Food was good, not amazing, but ok. Great choice for breakfast but the 3 course menu option, in the bar, very poor. Only 3 choices for each course. If you’re gluten free your options will be very limited! Mattress and pillows were rock hard….woke every hour and eventually just got up at 6am and sat in the chair! Hubby was the same and he could usually sleep on a rock! Can’t wait to get into my own bed tonight to get a sleep!! No toiletries in the bathroom either, which was very surprising for a so called 5 ⭐️ hotel. The setting is stunning, right on the water, but it wouldn’t be enough to entice me back, I’m afraid. For the price we paid, it was very disappointing.

Grounds to hotel are picture prefect Spa was relaxing, treatment was nice. pool is very cold,deep with steps unsafe for childen or older people, no railings. Our rooms were immaculate. But the restaurant or bar menu do not cater for Gluten free options. Only main choice was a steak with extra €10 supplement. Unable to accommodate us at all. We asked could they even cook panfired cod were told no. So disappointing and no atmosphere in bar area.
