Cabañas Alechen

Alejandro and Eduardo were fantastic hosts and made us feel incredibly welcome. The cabin is very charming and is walking distance to the town, with an abundance of restaurants and shops. Alejandro makes a lovely breakfast and went out of his way to accommodate our dietary restrictions. This was by far our most charming and accommodating stay in Argentina. The personal touch was so appreciated - they sat down with us and spent time explaining things and even drove us through town initially to get us acquainted. A fantastic stay !

An amazing way to be introduced to Patagonia! We stayed at Cabanas Alechen our first nights, and we were thrilled at the beautiful flowers, cozy wooden cabin, and homemade breads and fresh juice for breakfast! What amazing hosts. Staying at the cabin made a fantastic start to our Patagonian adventure - highly recommended!

It was wonderful. The two hosts are super helpful, courteous, open and always available if you have a question or need help. The breakfast was very tasty and there was a different surprise every day. There was nothing wrong with the accommodation, the cottage was perfectly furnished and we wanted for nothing. It was a great stay and we would come back any time and recommend it to others. Alejandro and Eduardo are the sweetest hosts and the best of Argentinian hospitality. They were incredibly helpful and accommodating, genuinely interested in fellow travelers and just all around lovely.3 Regrettably, we only spent one night in El Calafate, but we were so thankful we found and stayed at Cabanas Alechen. The cabins are clean, spacious, well appointed with everything you could need and they are not far from the town (maybe a 15 min walk). Highly recommend staying here. Thank you, Alejandro & Eduardo for making our short stay in El Calafate so warm and memorable!

From the moment we arrived until we left, Alejandro and Eduardo provided us with everything we needed and more. They bring breakfast in the morning (a variety and more than we could eat), and, if you are like us and pack in a hurry, they will make sure you have things like sunblock to get through the day. The place has everything you need: a nice kitchen and living area; a small bedroom up a set of stairs, which present the greatest risk (especially going to bathroom at night). We stayed in the bungalow, so I can't speak to the other side of cabaña. It is a charming cabin set on the edge of a hill overlooking Lake Argentina, the country's largest lake. You can sit and drink coffee and watch the waves ferociously cut to the east below. The wind whips across the lake and hums through the night, but the well-built cabaña takes it in stride. And if you get cold, you can turn up the heat, but more often than not, we had to turn it down. The center of town is about a 20 to 25-minute walk, which is fine since you should be walking off the huge Argentine, late-night dinners of rib-eye steak or lamb (the area specialty). Of course, Alejandro and Eduardo, turned us on to a local place (Don Pinchón), which comes and picks you up and drops after dinner, so you can even cut the walk out of the equation, if you want. In all, a fantastic stay.
