Red Lion Hotel by Greene King Inns

We were in the area visiting my sister. The location is easy to get to and located near many other attractions. The car park is very large. It’s an old hotel and very quaint. But the rooms are clean and the bed was comfortable. The bar is fantastic and there is also a full restaurant. Overall a great value.

This is an older premises, so the decor and condition reflect that. I stayed in room 9, the bed was a bit too soft for me and the height on the shower head could not be changed (too low for me). Otherwise the room was okay. Staff friendly and helpful. Free parking in car park at rear.

Comfortable bedding, nice sized room with bath. Car park outside and the main high street with a range of bars, restaurants and shops close by. Rooms well away from the main bar area with breakfast available and bar food on offer all day. Friendly staff at reception and generous check in/out times.

asked to see the General Manager in respect of a concern involving a member of staff and the way I was treated and spoken to, Needless to say, no one came to see me, on booking out, guess what, no one asked me how my stay went. ?? if somebody would have asked me I would have had the pleasure of telling them, no wonder I was not asked to fill out a customer satisfaction form.

Fantastic food! The halloumi fries are a must! Fantastic staff and such a lovely atmosphere. The food is superb. We go regularly for a weekend but a mid-week venture was just as good. Bar staff and waiting staff really compliment a fantastic night out

Great one night stay. Good sized room with perfectly functional en-suite and view into the garden. Parking was free but make sure you let reception know so the vehicle can be logged. Reception was friendly as was the bar. Breakfast was fabulous and as previously experienced. In summary, The Red Lion for me, makes a great base from which to visit family and the wider local area.

We had a family get together and meal for my wife’s birthday. The food was excellent, especially the Asian belly pork, the staff were very attentive and friendly. It was a great experience in nice surroundings. We will definitely be going back there in the future.

7.45pm arrived wanting to eat in dining area which only had people on 2 tables and were told we could eat only in bar area with the drinkers what difference would it have made to the staff if we could have just had a quiet table in the dining area?? Not a customer friendly place . Is this why it is not busy??

We booked thus venue at short notice for my Mum's 90th birthday. I booked 2 rooms for my family in the hotel slong with a dinner reservation. On arrival our greeting was warm and friendly. We had a special request to look after a cake my wife had made until dinner. This was all no problem and did work very well. The cake miraculously appeared at the correct moment. Hats off to the staff for that one especially when you consider they had a busy night! The dinner was good. We all enjoyed our choices. Quality pub fayre. I would say the bar lacked seating but it was a busy night. Bar staff were great. The room was ok. I liked the fact that rooms seemed to be placed all over. It has maintained the character of its coaching inn heritage. I think the rooms, especially the bathroom in our room could do with updating. The mirror was not well lit and shaving was a little bit of a struggle. Overall we were comfortable and enjoyed a good nights sleep. Breakfast was great. Ths continental section appeared adequate bus was on reflection actually rather good. Yoghurt, fruit, many kinds of bread for toast, croissant, cereal and fruit juices. The staff were all over us offering coffee but i would rather of had my own pot or French Press. On an ordinary day i vould of had a very good breakfast. But i was on holiday so i fix go for a full english and i was not disappointed the vegetarian option was good and the salmon was a good choice too Finally I think the whole venue was extremely good value for money.
