The Carlton Hotel

The price was high for what was there. The same amount could have been paid to a premier inn, but unfortunately it was to late to realise 🤦🏽 the building is very old, everything is old, carpet, stairs, the windows (very old windows) i was scared it will fall as soon as we open it, the Tv gets stuck , it will not let you watch anything without connecting Apparently it is a Wifi free of charge that is not working on second level!!!! In regards to the breakfast! OMG! NO! The breakfast is literally bread/yogurt/jam/tea /cereals

The hotel in in the heart of the Leas promenade, within walking distance of the town and harbour, Sunny Sands and coastal park. Although we were greeted by a very helpful member of staff the accommodation was very poor. In need of massive refurbishment (which admittedly was in progress when we booked in). The lift was broken. Our first impressions was that the decor was extremely black. The first room we were shown was shabby and unwelcoming, overlooking an unmade carpark, and an apartment block. For a modest sum we upgraded to a sea view room, it was much brighter and had a spectacular view of the sea and promenade. The room was adequate, but in major need of decoration with wallpaper drawn upon and torn, frieze coming away from the wall and paintwork in need of a lick of paint. The TV and table were damaged. Although clean, the bedding, including pillows were thin. The room had been separated by a dividing wall and we were regularly woken by the neighbouring guests moving around on a creaky floor and snoring! The carpet was worn by the window and the floor sloped-which was interesting! Housekeeping was almost non-existent. Just 2 towels on each of the days we were there. No cleaning of the room. We had to request an extra pillow, which never came, and more coffee and toilet rolls which we got ourselves from reception! The ensuite was very small but adequate. The toilet roll holder barely attached to the wall. The sink had no plug and the hot water was non existent. There seemed to be a leak somewhere as there was a pool of water by the toilet. There were complimentary soaps and sachets of body/hair wash for the first day only - thankfully we had taken our own. The bar had limited bottled/canned stock, no cellar. We were not offered breakfast as an extra, and it is fair to say there was no evidence of a restaurant although a Brasserie was advertised at the entrance.

The staff was very friendly and helpful To be honest I didn’t seen any reviews before booking the hotel.i have stayed for one night which was very nice with sea view we enjoyed a lot in bar ,clean and tidy room , i can say that we had a pleasant and peaceful stay in the hotel. Definitely will come back

Awful hotel in desperate need of a full refurbishment sea view room but a room in which wardrobe doors hanging off drawers that won’t close mould in the bathroom TV that doesn’t work. Only scores a 1 from the warm welcome we had but avoid this hotel unless it undergoes major change. I have stayed in many hotels but this ranks as the worst

It’s not clean. Room beyond basic. There is budget but I didn’t expect worse than a homeless hostel. No hot water. Just unclean. The worst breakfast offering ever seen. Beyond basic. Zero star if an option. The only thing going for it was the location but I would have been better on the park bench in front of the hotel if I wanted that location. Can’t quite get how the management think it’s acceptable. I’m sure they know this is just a very very very basic and inadequate facility

Very basic room but works well for 1 night catching the Eurotunnel. Small heater in room. Big comfy bed. On the sea front. Having renovations done so scaffolding up at present. Bar looked inviting but I got there late & soaking wet so had no time to check it out. tea & coffee making facilities but I had to move kettle to be able to plug it in. Basic shower. I think the hotel itself is probably nice but I only really saw my room. Helpful staff Disliked · Basic budget rooms, adequate/ ideal for 1 nights stay catching Eurotunnel

The hotel is a poor old tired thing. The staff were pleasant and helpful (though they did try to charge us more which we graciously declined to do) and the beds were clean and pretty comfortable - tho on quite an alarming angle due to wonky floors. We had a sea view augmented by scaffolding. The back staircase smelt of cat wee, our toilet leaked onto the floor, the shower was not really big enough for an adult to stand in and switch on at the same time and our bathroom extractor was switched off. Breakfast was a challenge, one especial favourite of ours was the cheese and salami kept in the same container so the vegetarians in our party were treated to Salami tasting cheese. Yum. The tea was really awful as you had to make it with a jug of warm water. Coffee not quite as bad but sludgy at the bottom. Toast and spreads were ok tho. We most favoured the little yoghurt fridge. Our sleep was somewhat marred by a massive group of football fans who made a lot of noise late into the night and then again in the morning. The only thing going for this hotel is the price and actually we decided that wasn’t incentive enough to stay here.

I came to this hotel to try and book in and was told it is no longer trading as a hotel as it it now full of bearded children from abroad. I tried this hotel after unsuccessfully trying to book into the southcliff hotel next door which is no longer trading as it is full of customers on holiday from Manston and Dover who started their journey from calais. They apologised for the inconvenience and suggested I tried further down the coast in the next county or at least that’s what they seemed to be suggesting. The security that surround the hotel are pleasent enough and although English is not spoken, it is easily understood that you are no longer welcome in the vicinity. However rest assured the current residents are enjoying the beautiful sea views and fine cuisine being afforded to them for their stay.

The title explains it all. Very disappointing. I've stayed here once before. Sadly until the HO sorts itself out this hotel will be closed to the public. I now stay in the Southcliff further down the road, but I doubt I'll be going back to Folkestone.
