Havener's

We were really looking forward to our stay at Havener's, having eaten there many times. The food is always excellent and the staff are helpful and cheery. Unfortunately our stay was not what we expected in room 3. There were the usual little niggles, as there is with any hotel, nowhere is perfect. But then things went downhill from there. The room was described as, "Rooms overlook the quay and estuary beyond", therefore we were expecting a view looking towards the coast and sea beyond. However ours was facing inland, looking up river. There was no body wash/soap in the shower, only shampoo & conditioner. We also heard this mentioned by other guests. The shower door was hanging on the runners by one wheel, instead of the supplied four. The toilet seat was loose and the toilet was very close to the wash basin to make it uncomfortable. The towels were laid out on shelves ready for us, but when removed, the shelves were still dusty. The central light fitting was unsafe, the outer sheath exposing the wires inside and not properly fixed to the ceiling rose or the light fitting. The room was not once vacuumed during our 3 night stay, and the final day, our room was not serviced at all! We returned to full waste bins, unwashed cutlery & crockery and unmade bed. For a 3 night stay, that was advertised at nearly £190 per night, this was totally unacceptable. I don't think we'd stay here again, but we would definitely eat here again. All grievances were brought to the attention of the General Manager.

Excellent location and a fabulous view of the estuary (room 2). Clean room, lovely soft furnishings, robe, pillow spray and much needed ear plugs, due to the central location it was noisy but the ear plugs worked perfectly. Extremely friendly staff, nothing is too much trouble. The rooms aren’t turned over daily unless you ask for it to be done, likewise we were asked every morning if anything needed replenishing. The system seems to work but it’s not what we’re used to. The breakfast was good, although the time range is 8-9.30 am, I think this should be extended to 10am. No parking unfortunately and if you park in the main car park it’s a 10 minute steep hilly walk, the hotel recommended a different car park but we didn’t feel there were enough spaces as we planned to use the car a few times. Overall a great place to stay, I recommend it and would return.

We loved our stay at Haveners. A brilliant location with great views of the estuary. We were lucky to have good weather so it was very picturesque. The staff were lovely, very friendly and couldn’t do more for you to ensure you had an enjoyable stay. We ate in the restaurant two nights and the food was really nice and reasonably priced. Breakfast was good too generous portions and we were well looked after by the lovely JLo. We had room 4 which was a little snug but spotless and nicely decorated with a modern bathroom. Only fault was the lack of a hairdryer which we did manage without. Nice toiletries and everything else you needed was provided. Our first visit to Fowey which we loved. We hope to stay at Haveners again on our next visit.

Had an absolutely amazing time - The views- stunning. The food - fantastic. The team - well what a credit to st Austell brewery. From arrival Georgia, Barris, Cat, JLo in fact all the staff made us feel welcome and looked after us throughout our stay. The attention to detail with the service, the food, help and advice about the local area and where to go to pouring the perfect gin was a massive part of why our trip was so special. Great breakfast & a beautiful dinner! We stayed in room 4 which was a bit too cosy for more then a couple of nights - beautiful & clean room but slightly tired- there is some attention to detail needed to some fixtures and fittings in the bathroom. Thank you to the whole team at Havener’s for making my partners 40th birthday celebration one we will never forget. We will be back - see you all soon!

I arrived on the passenger ferry from Polruan and was so happy that the Haveners was literally right next to the ferry stop; having just walked 12 steep miles along the coast path and not having to walk any further that was the first delightful treat! From then on it felt like home. Lovely welcoming staff, a beautiful room with a gorgeous view and a really nice bathroom. I appreciated the tea and biscuits and enjoyed the comfort of the room before going down to a delicious dinner of fresh crab. Bed was really comfortable. Breakfast was everything a breakfast can be and an excellent start to my second day of hiking. As a solo visitor I especially appreciated the friendliness of all the staff.

An absolute bargain! Lovely room, comfortable bed, bathroom with good sized bath, spotlessly clean and Elemis toiletries plus delicious biscuits, quality coffee machine and selection of beverages. Quiet at night and an excellent generous cooked breakfast with a lovely view of the harbour. Very friendly staff who couldn’t have been friendlier and accommodating. All at an extremely reasonable price! Will definitely return.

Overall, my stay at Havener's was lovely. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating, the room was clean and well stocked (biscuits, tea, coffee, bath robes, etc.), the location is perfect, the town views are charming, and the food, both dinner and breakfast, was delicious. This was easily the most luxury feeling accommodation of any place I stayed during my two weeks in England. I highly recommend Havener's and would not hesitate to stay here again. Things to be aware of: - It's an old building with single pane windows, at least in the room I stayed in (1). As a result, all exterior sounds are clearly audible. Despite this, and because of the operating hours of businesses in town, I never found this to be problematic during normal sleeping hours (e.g., 10pm-7am). A set of ear plugs was provided, though I did not have a need for them. - Access to all rooms is currently only possible via a set of stairs. However, if you can manage the very steep streets throughout Fowey, the limited number of steps shouldn't be overly problematic. - The mattress in my room was not terribly comfortable. It certainly wasn't the worst I experienced during my trip to England, but also noticeably a spring mattress with limited padding. If any one thing were to be improved about the room, this would be it. - Due to the age of the building and settling over time, room #1 slopes considerably downward in the direction of the bed's head. This could lead to a headache during the night.

We loved our stay at Haveners. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and looked exactly as advertised, no photo shopping. The location on the Fowey Quay is as central as you’ll find. The breakfast choices are excellent. I can highly recommend it.

Lovely location overlooking the harbour . Lots of indoor and outdoor seating Friendly helpful staff and very good meal. We hadn’t booked but they managed to squeeze us in Good selection on menu. I had vegetarian option which was delicious.
