Friday Harbor Grand

Beautiful B& B with a wonderful host! He prepared delicious breakfasts and played the piano in the evening while we sipped wine and munched on homemade coconut cookies. He has a vast knowledge of the island and gave good recommendations for what to do and where to dine.

Farhad was a wonderful host. Our stay exceeded all expectations. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The breakfasts were so delicious and kept us full so we could spend time exploring the beautiful island. Farhad also provided nighttime treats and wine and played amazing piano and harpsichord songs for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and look forward to future stays here again!

Truly ,one of the most entertaining accommodations EVER!! Classical pianist Every evening with a glass of good wine, fresh baked cookies, and Excellent company and conversation. And Breakfast is freshly baked goods, eggs from the chickens out back, fresh veggies and fruits from the garden...etc This is a beautiful Inn, historical, lovely remodeling and decor. Best bed and thick, soft sheets. You dont really need a car, the town is close and quite walkable. Goog restaurants, excellent shopping. Had to tell myself..no more.

There should be a new entry in the urban dictionary… the host with the most would have a photo of Farhad Ghatan! He makes you feel so at home at the Friday Harbor Grand B&B that after a few days I felt guilty not getting my own glass of water and clearing our dishes. Our entire experience was warm and welcoming. The day starts with an absolutely amazing breakfast. Everything is homemade and the first ingredient is a huge dose of love. His egg dishes are fantastic and made with the eggs he collects from his chickens, right on the property. He’s got a beautiful garden and most of the vegetables.. including purple potatoes, are included in his frittatas. Breakfast typically includes homemade bread, an egg dish and either a waffle or pancake. He’s picks fresh blackberries for pancakes and harvests his walnut tree to use where needed. He’s so generous with his time and effort, always going out of his way to make things as special as possible, in any other world his version of breakfast would be two breakfasts, but they are so scrumptious that we ate every bite. The rooms are lovely, clean and well maintained,complete with all the amenities (refrigerator, microwave, dishes, silverware). He’s got an amazing knowledge of the island and is always happy to share his recommendations. At the end of the day we were serenaded by Farhad’s awesome piano skills and stories and treated to homemade cookies and wine. A great way to end a perfect day on San Juan Island. Staying at the Friday Harbor Grand Bed and Breakfast is like staying with a favorite cousin…Truly! We’ve been here twice and never want to leave. We’ll definitely be back!

What a great place to stay. We really enjoyed staying here. We had the Garden Suite with its private door on the patio. Wonderful breakfast in the morning, baked threats at 7PM and a piano concert at 7:30PM. The grounds are enjoyable just to walk around and the Grand is situated close to town so we could walk anywhere in town. The owner and his assistant were so helpful and friendly. What a great find. Cannot wait until we return next year.

My husband and I have wanted to visit the San Juans for ages. We especially needed this vacay because we were overworked and burned out. We never stayed in a B&B before, and I did not know what to expect. From now on, it’s B&B all the way! The gracious home is situated atop the rise from the harbor, and is nestled under several majestic cedar trees. The front lawn is awash with color from the dozens of species of flowering plants in a naturalistic setting. The great room houses a beautiful Steinway grand piano. Our room was one of four on the second floor and faced the harbor. It had a wrap-around balcony looking down on the tiny hamlet and harbor. We could have been the only souls in the world, that’s how quiet and peaceful it was to sit on the balcony, or relax in the room. The bathroom was incredible. It was large, with windows, and contained an Olympic sized bathtub, and a very large shower. In the room, there was a breakfast bar style counter with a sink, microwave, mini fridge. The floors are hardwood, decorated with area rugs, and the furniture is unique and recalls a more gracious time. The king size bed was extremely comfortable. Our host was Farhad, a gourmand and Renaissance man, who refurbished the entire home. He served us our delicious breakfasts, got conversation going in a gentle and unassuming way, and each night he would entertain us with a piano recital from 7:30 to 8:30. It was relaxing and made the stay extra special. After that, he would melt away and leave us to our privacy. Thanks to Farhad, we chartered the best whale watching trip ever, on our last night in Friday Harbor. This stay was as near perfect as it is possible to get. My only complaint was that it had to end. Thank you, Farhad, for an unforgettable trip.

I can see why most reviewers praise the owner of this B & B. If you praise his piano recitals, his food and his rooms he will be very charming. Our experience was not so charming. Our trip changed when my newly pregnant daughter started the trip feeling tired and nauseous. I explained this to the owner and thought that he would offer us grace when we were unable to attend the piano recital and breakfast. Instead the owner was curt and dismissive. We paid a hefty fee to be treated so poorly.

In summary it was overpriced compared to the quality of the accommodation. On the positive side it was very close to the town. Our room was very small but had an outside area. It was just very dark and gloomy. They could do with white towels that are washed without softener as you can’t get dry! Staff pleasant.

What an amazing stay! Fresh flowers, cookies delivered to your room nightly, and a piano happy hour with wine! Farhad has the inn keeper job down ! Lovely room by the gardens with a Kuerig coffee maker and fixings, small fridge and microwave. Lovely linens and one of the best breakfasts around! All of his suggestions for dining and sights were spot on! Farhad knows Friday Harbor! Can’t wait to come back!!
