Our fairytale wedding at Elmhay Park was perfect. We Booked a day to be shown around, and upon arrival the owner took us round the entire venue to see all parts, we then had complimentary coffee in the club house and were given details to take away. Whilst we were there we asked about a few dates in June/September 2024 (only 12 months in advance) and he told us there and then which dates were free, we knew from enquiring with other venues that to get a wedding the following year wasn’t common, so we decided there and then to pay the deposit and reserve 30th June 2024. From Booking this in April 2023 there wasn’t much need for communication between us and the venue, we had an email in October with a 9 month countdown, and we started the process of sorting out accommodation for guests. Accommodation – This was probably our biggest let down in us having to organise it ourselves, we wished the venue would have took over and sorted this out for us. It added extra stress for us organising who would fit in the rooms without really knowing the floor plans of the rooms, for example one cottages is marked as a double and twin rooms both with ensuites, however the double rooms bathroom is separate and out on the landing and we had put two couples who were strangers in this cottage being unaware of this. The village states it sleeps x amount of people but a lot of the rooms are 3 beds when most of our family were in couples in meant we couldn’t actually offer all the beds out. After a lot of stress, moving people round, chasing money we figured it out, however this took 3+ months. For a 5* venue we wished they’d of sorted this for us. We then had an email for our 6 month countdown, we contacted the club house to book the peacock and stag lounge for the night before, this again was difficult, we couldn’t be given food options or price lists, but we needed to contact our guests to offer them the option with costs etc. We managed to book the evening, but that was it. 5 months out we drove down to the venue for food tasting, this once again wasn’t exactly the special moment it would be, you were called up table by table to be served at the front, and the chef would run through each course with what could be offered as vegan, gluten free etc. My fault for not taking a pen so I missed the majority. We had already a rough idea of what we wanted to eat and didn’t get to try the main or the pudding that we wanted, so we felt we have done a 5 hour round trip to try a starter. Whilst we were there we had our itinerary meeting to make the most of the appointment, once again was a bit pointless, they ran through the form which we could have done ourselves. We asked heather if we could opt for pimms and beer for our reception drink as she said it would be roughly £5 per bottle of beer, so for each man to have roughly 3 bottles during the 2 hour reception was going to cost us £600! During the food tasting a lady came round asking if everyone had had their itinerary meetin
