I stayed at Rekona Lodge for around 8 weeks whilst working at nearby Gizo Hospital, as a medical student. The lodge is family run, and all the staff were incredibly kind and so helpful, they were always on hand for a friendly chat and to deal with any questions/issues. The lodge has a range of rooms: cheaper rooms which are fan cooled with either shared bathroom or ensuite, and some more expensive a/c rooms which all have an ensuite, which caters to all budgets. I stayed in an ensuite, fan cooled room to keep my cost down (if you are a medical student they may offer discount on some rooms). My room was cleaned and sheets/towels changed very frequently. They provided laundry and meal services on request, and helped to arrange the boat transfers to/from Nusatupe airport. They have a shared kitchen, which is fairly basic but well equipped with two camp stoves, plenty of pots/pans, utensils, toaster and shared fridge/freezer. This was always clean despite being shared between all of the rooms. It would sometimes be quite busy when there were lots of guests, but this was rarely an issue. The location was perfect, with a short 10min walk to the hospital, 5min to Dive Gizo, 8min to the market and only a stones throw from some shops + the ATM. Also the lodge is only a short walk to any of the jetty's in town, in order to get a boat to explore surrounding islands! Jordie on reception was a great help in contacting and helping to arrange boat trips with Davis, a family friend. There is also free wifi in reception, the kitchen, and some of the rooms - which is a rarity in Gizo! Overall I had an amazing stay and felt very welcome in Gizo from the outset due to the amazing staff at Rekona. Despite accommodation not being cheap in Gizo, the service provided by all the staff (especially Jordie and Ivan) was priceless and a huge help as a solo traveller! Thank you all for such a wonderful stay, I miss Gizo already!
