Manor House Hotel and Restaurant

The Manor House is a hard place to review. Some aspects are good; others not so much. The main attribute is it has a place available for a diner most of the time. There are three areas where you can get service: (1) small tables close to the taps, (2) a couple of small dining areas, and (3) a large beer garden (rough outdoor picnic tables). The tables by the taps and the dining areas are frequently busy; the beer garden is not. A server doesn’t take orders in the beer garden. You have to come in to the taps, place your order, and pay. You take your beer with you to your table; a server brings your food out to the beer garden. Although the servers are cordial, they often seem overwhelmed, moving so fast from customer to customer it seems as if they’re not sure which customer they’re supposed to be helping. As a result, you need some persistence not to get overlooked. The burger is excellent (if hard to eat by hand) as are the chips. The pizza, on the other hand, is awful. Like bad frozen. Don’t order it. The beer selection, though not broad, is good and the prices are decent.

We stayed several days at Manor Inn. This is an old coaching inn originally and has an adjacent building where we stayed as a large family. The accommodation, though dated, was clean and tidy and basically comfortable for us. There are steep stairs in the part we were in which older visitors might want to note. I may write a separate review on the restaurant portion which was worth driving miles for. Real food prepared at the inn, not production or frozen. The best steak and ale pie I have ever had and large portions with great gravy. Other meals at the same high quality standard. Full breakfast was a good standard. Very friendly and attentive staff.

Stayed the night and ate in bar. Room small basic but okay value. Furnishings and decor a little tired and mismatched. Cable ties used to hold the shower head.. Walls marked and needing attention. Wi-Fi not the best, cut in and out. Good selection of beer. Food menu a little limited. Had Cumberland sausage which was nice. Also had garlic bread which was small and poor value. Service was good and friendly. Cooked breakfast great. Overall very average. ‘Four in a bed’ winner badges everywhere. Doubt they would win now…

We stayed here for a night as a couple in a double room. All facilities were supplied - plenty of tea/coffee/milk, shower gel/shampoo/conditioner, tv & great wifi. The hotel is right in town. The lovely staff were very friendly, professional and helpful. We ate in the bar and the food was incredible! We had the haddock cakes and steak pie ( Desperate Dan would have struggled to finish all that meat !) Breakfast in the morning was included and was a great start to the day ( cereals, croissants, fruit, juices along with the most plentiful full english we've had in a very long while) Thank you to everyone for a wonderful stay - we will definitely be back.. Snap up a room if you're in the area ! You won't be disappointed..

Great pub/hotel. Convenient for Hadrian's Wall. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Good breakfast and the evening meal we had was very good. We paid for a larger room which had the bonus of his & her sinks. Can be a bit noisy but hey, it's an old pub!

Sunday lunch was tasty , hot and with a good selection of vegetables. Particularly enjoyed the cauliflower cheese and gravy, made Yorkshire puddings . Rhubarb and custard bread and butter pudding may need a rethink , but chocolate cake on the bar looked lovely.

Stopped here for an evening meal as recommended by our local Airbnb host; we both ordered rump steak cooked medium rare, cooked to perfection! cooked freshly so a short wait but definitely worth it! Friendly staff, comfortable dining area.

Two night stay with a family group and dog. Comfortable and very clean room lovely bed linen and towels. The food was excellent with a good menu choice and breakfast plentiful and great quality. All the staff were friendly and professional and the hotel had a relaxed atmosphere. Popular with walkers due to its proximity to Hadrians wall.

Recently came here for dinner. Friendly welcome by staff members. There is a nice-sized meny available. We had 2 pizza pies. Very inexpensive. The building itself is quite impressive to be in as its quite old. Food was freshly made, hot and very filling. Highly recommended!
