So having just returned from Taj - Coral Reef Resort and suffering from the time difference as it’s now 4:00am in the UK and I would be having breakfast if still on the island, now is the ideal time to write a review. I have been to the Maldives now each year for the last 3 years and stayed at different resorts each time - I rank Taj Coral Reef as the best of the three. So here are some things that I would have like to have known when I was looking at booking as hopefully will be helpful in making your own decision. Firstly, the island is fairly small, about 9 acres, I has 32 Beach bungalows and 32 Water bungalows - so this is not a busy packed island full of people like some out there. Food - so because they are smaller their food is really quite excellent! There are there places to eat, Bokkura Restaurant which is where breakfast is taken - it is A’la’carte, with an extensive menu offering all the traditional dishes for breakfast I would find in a Bistro Cafe here in the UK but with two pages of other dishes local to the area so Maldivian, Indian and other Asian breakfast options, that are amazing and must be tried. Teas, coffees and all drinks are also included and their drinks menu was vast, with a huge selection of cocktails and mocktails contained within. Bokkura also offers A La Carte lunch and dinner - the menu remains the same. How it works on their all inclusive is you can pick and choose from “small plates” (starters) and “large plates” (mains) Again the menu is vast with an Asian section (Chinese, Japanese, Thai etc) European (Italian, French, German, British etc) and an Indian Section which also includes a large number of Maldivian dishes. Each of the above is split into Vegetarian, meat and seafood. The choice was incredible, but the delivery was even better, we were worried that there would be a drop in quality from such a varied menu and I properly tried it out, and it was always quite exceptional! They are also very happy to allow you to mix things up and just order a load of starters if you don’t fancy a main course - exceptional flexible and attentive staff! The other option for lunch is the Reef Bar - here is where you get your drinks most of the day also. In the menu here they offer cold and hot dishes again you can choose anything you like. The burgers were all homemade and very tasty, the pizza was also very well done as were all the wraps and other dishes - particular mention to there potato wedges, which are some of the best I have ever had anywhere. Their final restaurant is the Open Grill - you need to book, but it’s more so they can prepare accordingly as it was never full during our stay but had a regular stream of other guests coming and going. The menu is again very impressive serving dishes from across the world - it’s still all inclusive, however there are also options here which you can pay extra for if required (think grilled lobster and things like that) they do an excellent Beef Tenderloi
