I would never return to The Skyline Lodge and would never recommend this hotel to anyone. The front desk gentleman that was working there on 8/4 at approximately 4pm was rude, disrespectful, arrogant and unprofessional. I have never experienced such horrible customer service at any hotel I’ve ever stayed at. I have never written a TripAdvisor review but am taking the time to write this one because I want this hotel to know how this employee is treating their guests. Upon arrival, I noticed there was no refrigerator in my hotel room. I had called a day prior requesting a refrigerator and was told by the reservation department that yes there is a refrigerator in the room. When there was no refrigerator in my room I went to the front desk and explained the situation to the gentleman that I was told I would have a refrigerator. Immediately he had an attitude and said well, we don’t have a refrigerator and they are given out the day you get here by calling the front desk. I explained to him that I tried to call the reception desk and when I did, I got no answer on multiple phone call attempts. He said well the phone never rang at the front desk, basically calling me a liar. So I showed him the proof on my phone the amount of times that I called there and nobody picked up. And he said that I probably didn’t have cell reception and that’s why the call didn’t go through. If I didn’t have cell service then I wouldn’t have been able to get through and choose the reception desk as an option. He said well we’ve been here the whole time and I said well if you were here then I guess you didn’t answer the phone because I called and there was no answer on multiple occasions and that’s why I called reservations and they assured me I would have a refrigerator. He told me that reservations has nothing to do with booking a refrigerator that they’re not located at the hotel, they are in Oregon or some other state. Like I was supposed to know this. Perhaps you need to tell your reservation department that every room does not have a refrigerator and that you need to call the hotel directly to get a refrigerator. I understand that this gentleman wouldn’t have been able to make a refrigerator magically appear when there were none to be had. Of course I was disappointed about not having a refrigerator because I had deli meat, cheese and mayo to make sandwiches for hiking trips that I had to throw in the garbage because I didn’t have a refrigerator. That part was over and done with there was nothing I could do about that but the bad impression that I have of this hotel due to that gentleman’s attitude and customer service is horrible! My husband overheard my conversation with this gentleman and he was appalled at his demeanor and attitude as well and said we’re not staying here. We tried to book another hotel but unfortunately everything was sold out so we were stuck there. They don’t inform you when you book the room that it’s going to be extremely noisy there but they le

Unfortunately I am having to repost my review since I am unable to edit my original review or reply to the hotel who lied in their response to me. Photos attached of my original review, hotel response and the air purifier they had in our room to try to disguise the stench. As previously mentioned, our room was damp, musty and smelled moldy. There was a plug in air purifier in our room so they clearly knew it issues. It was very uncomfortable and although we did ask for a new room twice during our stay, those requests were denied. The hotel said they did not have any rooms available to move us to and they did not offer any additional room options or even a verbal apology for the situation. The worst part about our stay was how obvious it was that no one cared about our experience at all. Marcos replied to my original review claiming the hotel not only offered us other room options but also had the "F&B team arrange many special treats during your dining experience" - this is also untrue and we never dined at the restaurant. We had to cancel our reservation because their outside seating was closed due to rain and we had our dog with us. Just to be clear - no one from the hotel reached out during our stay at all, nothing was offered, nothing was sent and nothing was said from anyone. As you can imagine this has been a very frustrating situation because if the hotel had actually done any of the things they claimed they did or were empathetic at all, then we would have had a much better trip.

Enjoyed the Skyline Lodge Restaurant. The pork rinds with peanut butter and smoked chicken were delicious. Watching Mike create our drinks was almost as enjoyable as his creations tasted. What an asset to the lodge. Loved Chips charming personality. They make a great team. Can’t wait to go back.

This was our first stay at Skyline Lodge - and hopefully not our last! The setting, the restaurant, the architecture - were everything we were looking for for a two night get away. The lodge also serves as a great "base camp" for hiking in this part of Western Carolina...

My Mom and I joined my daughters for a short birthday trip to Highlands. We had a wonderful dinner at the Oak Restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed the rolls with osemary butter and tarimisu for dessert. This was my second time staying here and I will stay again

My wife and I have stayed here many times. The staff is always very pleasant and accommodating. The lodge is an interesting, historic, Prairie-style design that we love. It is tucked-away in mountains next to a stream that looks and sounds beautiful, with truly amazing sunset views. The quality of the furnishings should be elevated, and the paint in the rooms touched up thought. And the restaurant, which has always been fabulous (and a reason by itself to stay here) was disappointing. It has become very popular and although the steak may be the best I’ve found anywhere (no hyperbole), there were other issues. The worst was forgetting to prepare the special dessert that I ordered well in advance for my wife’s birthday. Instead they brought her a slice of cake from the kitchen with a small plastic “happy birthday” medallion on it. (And my wife hates cake). Overall, I know it’s difficult for any business to consistently achieve excellence. But you have to keep trying. And especially with the restaurant, it seems like they may be resting on past laurels.

Highly recommend the Skyline Lodge. It's clean, quiet, and so stylish. My room was well appointed and I loved the heated floor tile in the bathroom. The hotel's setting outside of the town of Highlands is a huge plus. It's such a serene setting.

After receiving cute emails asking for special requests before our stay, we had high hopes that SL would be a special place. Unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations and we won't be coming back. The woman greeting us at check-in in the afternoon on 10/18 was unpleasant and unwelcoming. As a result, our stay began with a negative impression. Our lower level room was dark with poor lighting, poor sound insulation, uncomfortable mattress and huge pillows, and a tiny bathroom with no fan and a shower door that would not stay closed. The water never got very hot and the floor was flooded due to the open shower door. By the way, none of the special requests made in response to the cute emails and texts that we received were honored. The requests were not difficult to fulfill as they included requests for shower caps and cotton balls in the bathroom. When I realized that no one had paid attention to my responses to the emails, I went back to the unpleasant woman at reception to get what I needed, since only very basic amenities are supplied in the bathroom (no shower caps or vanity kits). During the chilly evenings, the guests were socializing in the courtyard where only a couple of the heaters were lit. Everyone gathered in a small area of the courtyard, which had many additional unlit heaters. Guests finally requested that mangement light more of the heaters as it became increasingly uncomfortable dealing with the dropping temperature. This is one example of the way that management missed the mark by not attending to a detail as small as lighting the heaters during the cool fall evenings.

Skyline is our go to weekend escape and never disappoints. Relaxed boutique hotel with a great upscale restaurant and sprinkle a few bears in there. The staff is friendly and accommodating and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Great place to chill on a mountain ridge .
