The Montesol Experimental is an old historic hotel that has had a recent refurbishment in Ibiza town. For all of the hotel and accommodation options in Ibiza, there are few hotels in its category - a five star hotel in downtown area walking distance to the fort and all of the restaurants. The hotel was smaller than I was expecting - just 33 rooms. It had a boutique hotel vibe as although it's rated five star, it had no hotel facilities - no pool, no gym, no breakfast buffet and limited services. Our room was fresh and modern with a tropical/holiday vibe even if a bit basic. It was adequate as we didn't spend much time in the room. The best feature of the hotel is its location. Indeed, the hotel is expensive and the only reason for this is the location. The same hotel ten minutes away in a taxi would be half the price. We appreciated the location. The express bus from the airport drops you off just 100 metres from the door of the hotel. Same for the late night disco bus. You can walk anywhere you want in Ibiza town, and the bus station is a flat 10-15 minute walk from the hotel to get anywhere else on Ibiza island. Our favourite feature of the hotel was the rooftop bar which at sunset is spectacular. Even if you don't stay at the hotel, it is a nice place to visit. The hotel breakfast (cafe style) served in the bar on the ground floor was also nice. If I came back to Ibiza, I don't know that I would stay here again. Not because there is a problem with the hotel; rather how expensive it is for what you get.
