Brook House B&B & Cottages

A friend and I have just enjoyed a few days away in Kaikoura, staying in the two bedroom cottage on site. It was ideal. Lovely setting with views from the deck over the fields to the mountains, perfect place to enjoy a wine as the sun went down. There’s an attractive garden going down to the brook, a well equipped, roomy, comfortable cottage, and best of all, my dog came with us and was very welcome! She quickly made friends with Judy’s (our host’s) dog Charlie who would pop round to visit. The cottage is set well back from the road, so very quiet, and safe for my dog. Highly recommend.

We prebooked for our holiday to South Island. Going whale watching, so booked Brook House B&B. Pictures look alot better than actual property. Run down, shabby garden, hose left across flight of steps, ready for someone to trip on. Room was small. Folding wooden doors in kitchenette wouldn't open or close. Musty smell inside. Upon talking to Judy,vshe wasn't pleased at all she needed to buy gluten free provisions for my breakfast. Seriously, she only needed to buy a loaf of gf bread and could freeze it afterwards. Really made me feel welcome, not. I've never been insulted by a hotelier or restaurant about needing celiacs safe food. It is a B&B though? We drove into town to find somewhere else for the night and secured a lovely place. We returned to Brookby to tell Judy we weren't happy to stay there and collect our bags.we had prepaid two nights there and one night was deducted from our account, which they wouldn't refund us for. Beware of photos online which sometimes aren't a true indicator of the property.

Great B&B - Judy, lady of the house is super friendly. She gives a realtime good explanation about the area and local cafés and restaurants and things to do in the city. She even does your laundry without an extra charge! The place to be in Kaikoura! 👌🏼

Motels are okay for quick stopovers but sometimes staying in a B&B is just better. Nice welcome from the host, useful tips on where to eat. Decent breakfast with friendly guests and a scary story from the host about the earthquake a few years back!

We needed to stay just one night to break our journey from Christchurch to Nelson via Blenheim. Our host Judy was very welcoming and friendly. Our room was comfortable with a door out into a garden area. As it was raining we didn’t get the chance to enjoy that. Our bed was so comfortable we had the best sleep we could remember. Our breakfast was very tasty with plenty of options to choose from. Suffice to say we will return in the bit too distant future for a longer stay.
