Grecotel Filoxenia Hotel

Although I had read some awful reviews on here I'm happy to say we had a wonderful 2 weeks. Firstly, the breakfast options were incredible, so much to choose from, all fresh, at least 12 hot options, meats,cheeses, fresh fruit, pastries, cereals and seeds/nuts, lots of different breads and now toast, could not fault it. Lobby must have improved because its lovely. All staff are delightfull, helpful and friendly. Extremely clean everywhere. On the negative side rooms are very tired and require a few more 4 star expected items like tea/coffee making facilities in room, we had a shower curtain others did not. Once rectified this hotel will be a superb getaway, amazing views, quiet and comfortable. I would not recommend for the physically disabled at the moment, one big problem is the lack of accessible toilets around the pool and beach, I either had to go back to our room or the lobby, not ideal in a wet swimsuit. I found the beach access difficult, the ramps to steep and the steps on to the beach need a handrail. Buses from outside the hotel gates are a plus, number 1 and 2 every 15 mins €1.50 no matter how far. We had a lovely relaxing holiday. I would go back if they fix the problems. I rate this hotel 3 star plus.

The reception area is wonderful but never used apart from waiting for transport back to airport, piano in there never played during our time there 11-25September no entertainment in September,Why? Very quiet at night no music, accommodation adequate but definitely not 4star, also shops certainly more than 500 metres as are most of the restaurants, pool area really good as are the gardens, prices in bar way over the top so as most people we spoke to bought our own drinks to have on balcony,

If you're looking for an all-inclusive package holiday hotel with endless facilities, evening entertainment, kids en-masse and a lively vibe, then do NOT book the Grecotel Filoxemia. If you're looking for a chilled out beach hotel with a civilised atmosphere, a mainly mature clientele and super friendly staff who go out of their way to hel, you'll be delighted with the Grecotel Filoxemia. I'm in the second camp and had an extremely enjouable 11 night stay in September 2024. It had its shortcomings, of course, but the good things far outweighed the not so good things. The good things include: * A quiet and exquisite location with buses right outside the hotel that take you to a number of locations, including Kalamata centre for 1.5 Euros. * Plenty of available sun loungers and umbrellas around the pool and beach and a Towel Guy who'd give you two or three towels if you asked (and sometimes if you didn't) * Efficient waiting staff in the restaurant. You never had to wait long for a table to be set or a drink to be brought. * Eager to help reception staff - in my case I arrived four hours before the official check-in time, but I got my room immediately and when I asked for a late check out, I was given an extra 2.5 hours without any charge. The shortcomings include: *The one all reviewers mention: the bathroom turning into a wet room every time you shower because there's no protective curtain or door on the bath. * Some of the food is left to go cold in the serving dishes at both breakfast and dinner. * The bar staff do not like you going to the beach bar in the day to order your own drinks. And, if you do, they try to send you back to where you were sitting so that a waiter can deliver them to you. The only problem with that is, that sometimes you can't find a waiter on the beach and, if you manage to, it takes quite a while to get your order. I'm a seasoned traveller and have stayed in good and bad hotels around the world. This is one of the good ones. It's not luxurious - but it's not meant to be, it's a four star and it earns and deserves its stars. You don't always get what you pay for where hotels are concerned...you do at the Grecotel Filoxemia.

Good seafront location, with easy access from motorway, big parking. The building is however old, the breakfast basic. The gardens and outdoor areas are nice. Kalamata waterfront is in walking distance. Worst was the pretentious tablet-based check-in process, that took long, with inexperienced staff. Guests just want to check-in and go to their rooms or to the pool, nobody wants to spend half an hour filling “electronic” forms.

Stayed here for a week with my 2 kids in August. We had a few issues which we fed back to hotel on Day 2. They included giving us a noisy room beside the lift when I expressly asked for a quiet room, the lack of shower curtains which turn the entire bathroom into a wet room, difficulty getting a table for breakfast or dinner, no water in rooms,etc. The hotel management asked to meet me to review the issues and this meeting seemed to go well. However, we agreed 2 follow ups and neither of these were followed through. This is my major issue. The hotel management wasted my time and made things worse and just made me feel ignored.

Just come back from a fabulous weeks stay at the Grecotel Filoxenia, Kalamata. The main hotel lobby was very clean and the food was very good. We are a family of five with kids ranging from 11-17 and they all managed to find something they liked. Before arrival we had asked for adjoining rooms which they accommodated for us as well as organising a minibus to pick us up from the airport. The staff here are so friendly and helpful, we were especially thankful for Antonis who helped finding us a table for five for dinner and breakfast every day. The location of this hotel is fabulous, the sea is like a mill pond in the morning lovely and warm so good for swimming, as it is a pebble beach recommend that you have aqua water shoes. In the afternoon the wind picks up and the sea gets like a wave pool, not so strong swimmers should head for the lovely swimming pool. We were a little disappointed with the standard of our room, they do not show pictures of all their rooms on their website. It did not have a bath it was a wet room with a shower in the corner that you had to sit under crouch. The room itself was clean and the air con got very cold which was a blessing as it was high 30s outside. The room did not at all detract from our holiday, we spent very little time in it. During our stay a daughter had experienced heat exhaustion and feinted, the hotel staff were very helpful and attentive, called ambulance and once back at hotel from hospital sent fruit to room and asked about her health regularly. The number 1 bus which you can pick up right outside the hotel gates runs about every 15 mins and will take you all the way to Kalamata Harbour for 1.5 Euros, where there are some lovely tavernas. Would also recommend a trip out to Ancient Messini.

Overall we had a nice stay here, however I don't think it is good value for money. It was quite expensive and there are just a few things that I would expect the hotel to be doing differently for that amount of money. Firstly, the standard of the rooms and how they are cleaned - the towels and beds are changed daily, but some days the dirty glasses were left in the room and the bathroom clearly hadn't been cleaned. Our phone did not work so there was no way of us calling down to reception and the room was just very dated. Secondly, the pool was covered in mildew and dirt. Thirdly, the reception staff. They came across extremely aloof and not approachable. That being said, all of the other staff we encountered were amazing - especially the staff who work by the pool and sea daily bringing drinks and food. They worked extremely hard and were always happy to help. We only had breakfast included so can't speak for anything else but the breakfast was nice enough with a good selection and a few days we ordered snacks from the beach bar and they were always fresh and delicious. We would suggest having table numbers so customers can go up and order themselves or employing more staff as sometimes we would have to wait a long time to find a member of staff to order with. The hotel is a great place to relax and unwind with it being right on the beach, beautiful location and if they made these changes it has the potential of being a 5*. Thank you for having us!

The hotel needs building and management restoration. We needed early check in because of the high temperature (asking that 1 month and two days before the check in) and that was never done (they ignored our notice that we had a 12 month baby...). The room when got ready was full of insects... We told them to prepare the baby's meal early at the chech in and they forgot it!! The manager for these reasons upgraded our room.... During the breakfast and the dinner the dirty dishes were not taken quickly and as a result we had to wait for an empty table without flies.... The waiters had not a clean role... The rooms are daily getting prepared until 3pm so after swimming we had to wait the inadequate personnel to clean the room and change towels... It's definitely overrated. You pay only the location....

We are very disappointed with this hotel. The positives - lovely beachside setting with gorgeous Mountain Views.friendly helpful staff. Clean rooms, cleaners do a good job. The negatives - the hotel is well overpriced and over rated. The breakfast is inedible. The fresh fruit is okay but the rest is tasteless and the same everyday. Our daughter didn’t bother getting up for it. The food is expensive and awful. The chips always cold. The club sandwich disgusting. Had to wait ages for food and drinks in the pool restaurant. Service friendly rhough. Rooms basic but clean. Air con and effective and a good send. Lots of children and certainly didn’t feel like a luxurious hotel. It’s is described as being on the edge of the old town. It’s about an hour and half walk to the old town. About an hour walk to the harbour where the restaurants are all the same selling cheap fast food. The fish is frozen. It’s better to eat out of the hotel as food is edible in the restaurants and bars and much cheaper. We found the first restaurant on the left out of the hotel the most reasonable. We won’t be returning to the hotel or this area. There are much nicer planes to go such as Aerepolis, Monemvasia. If you do get stuck here give breakfast a miss, get your drinks from the supermarket and eat out.
