After having an issue with a badly prepared duck confit (dry duck meat, under seared fat and burnt “French fries” clearly cooked in old oil), I calmly returned the dish as it was clearly not up to the standard of the other dishes my large family group were served by the lovely waitress. The staff apologised for the badly prepared meal on the chefs behalf. HOWEVER, here is the reason for the 1 star review as agreed by all members of my family present… At the end of the meal the dish was still on the bill, so I requested it was removed since I hadn’t eaten it and it was returned to the kitchen with no further comment from staff. When I requested it was removed, the staff approached other tables and disturbed them to loudly take comment from other tables of diners around the restaurant on the quality of their food. In the end 3 different members of staff argued with me over how their duck confit was amazing as they’ve been cooking it for 18 years (no wonder the meat was dry! 😂) I have eaten duck confit many times all around the world, notably in many restaurants around France. This was by far the worst and really did the traditional dish a big disservice, I’m sorry to anyone that tries this restaurants food as their first experience of French cuisine. What I really didn’t appreciate was a full blown argument at the table after our expensive meal, with other tables turning to watch you verbally assault me, whilst I sat trying to calm you all down and reason with you. Maybe try the veg or fish dishes here if you’re forced to eat here as they were good, but ideally eat elsewhere if you can. We ate in other restaurants around the town and many were far better with lovely service. Be sure to avoid the duck confit and don’t raise any issue, otherwise the staff will berate and attempt to mock you. God help you if your hotel accommodation has any issues, I’d have thought that they’ll surely not be helpful !
