Excellent hotel, absolutely incredible room, balcony mountain suite was massive, brilliantly appointed. We felt instantly at home. It really feels like a jungle/mountain retreat, very well laid out with the room feeling very private. Buggy service is literally instant, with lovely drivers. Pool bar and heated pool fantastic, Great views. Restaurant brilliant, both breakfast and dinner were exceptional. Staff very attentive and friendly. Very slick operation, they seemed to know what you needed before you did.

Beautiful, remote location perched on a hillside. Individual bungalows are delightfully decorated using local materials, great attention to detail and very comfortable. The central restaurant was also delightful with good food and atmosphere. The staff all gave excellent service. We didn’t get a chance to do many of the activities on offer as we were off on day trips, but the cloud pool area is lovely. My only comment would be for guests to understand that it is quite a remote location… hence the name retreat!!

We stayed in five different hotels during our trip to Vietnam and the service here was above and beyond anywhere else. The staff are so friendly and polite, and really dedicated to showing you the best time. We fed animals at the farm (water buffalo, deer, goats, chicken and pigs), attended art and children’s cooking classes, watched traditional dance performances and even a movie night in the stilt house museum. Each experience was delivered by locals from the villages and/or staff at the hotel (usually for translating and providing further instruction). The massages at the spa were also incredible. I can never say enough good things about the views, the grounds, the approach to sustainable and responsible tourism, the GORGEOUS and spotless rooms, afternoon snacks and drinks, etc. They are also so attentive, when my husband was ill (for the previous place, not Avana), they delivered customized tea trays to our room. And when he dropped his phone in the fish pond (haha) they were quick with a net to safely retrieve it. We also enjoyed the local village tour, it’s such a remote area that was really special to see and learn about off the usual tourist path.

Our stay at Avana Retreat was great. We stayed in Room #304, and the views were absolutely breathtaking — waking up to the lush green mountains and serene landscape felt like a dream. The room itself was luxurious, spacious, and designed to seamlessly blend with the natural surroundings. The happy hour is hands down the best deal for enjoying delicious, well-crafted drinks while soaking in infinity pool. It became our favorite way to unwind after a day full of activities. The breakfast buffet was spectacular and you have endless amount of options to choose from. The excursions arranged through the retreat were exceptional. The full-day hike to the Hmong Village offered stunning scenery and a glimpse into local culture, while the on-site cooking class was both fun and immersive, teaching us traditional techniques and flavors. We also treated ourselves to spa massages, which were incredibly relaxing and reasonably priced for the high quality of service. Overall, Avana Retreat is a beautiful and peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi. If you’re looking for a place to recharge, connect with nature, and indulge in thoughtfully curated experiences, this is it. We can’t wait to return!

This serenely luxurious resort is set in the beautiful Mai Chau hill country 100 miles west of Hanoi. The guest villas are large, furnished with understated elegance that features local materials, and have panoramic views of the valley below. The restaurant, pool, spa and other amenities are all first class. But most outstanding was the quality of the staff. The Avana staff, many of whom are from local towns and specifically trained for the resort, provided us with flawless service and seemed (justifiably) proud of their work. Kudos to them.

We had a wonderful time at The Avana. From the moment we arrived to the minute we left we could not fault it. The people are warm and offer perfect service. Our room, which was stunning, over looked rice fields. We had a guide to take us for a hike around the fields and local villages which was so worth doing. We enjoyed amazing scenery & meeting local people who even offered us tea in their homes. The spa is lovely with beautiful massages every day. We would definitely recommend and would love to go back. Our family had a great stay at Avana Retreat. Despite some rainy weather, we enjoyed many on-site activities. The bamboo forest was a highlight, offering natural beauty and adventure. We also loved the spa, which provided relaxing massages that were perfect after a day of exploring. The kids had fun, and the whole family found something to enjoy. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. The retreat offers a variety of experiences for every taste, from adventure to relaxation. We appreciated the calm and serene environment, perfect for unwinding. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience. Thank you to the team at Avana Retreat for these wonderful memories!
