Jolly Sailor- Fish on the Quay

I am sorry to say this was not a good experience our first room was dirty the bed linen was not clean the hot water was almost non existing and grossly overpriced even the manager agreed with all our complaints. We have paid less and had a lot better ,had we been given the room we were moved to because our floor was flooded we may not have complained as we said not a good experience

Excellent old pub with rooms that has an historical feel about it. Very welcoming Family staff. This pub is known for its good food and they also provide an exceptional breakfast. Overall a fine place to stay - even taking into account the 'interesting' staircase up to our rooms.

We have stayed overnight in this lovely b&b for 2 years running for the Soultasia festival and so we booked and paid in full to stay again next year. Three days after this booking had been paid for we were advised that they wanted an additional £100!! It was £119 this year, we paid £150 to secure next year and now they wanted another £250? Absolute profiteering. Won’t be staying here ever again 😢

Stayed here for 1 night, and loved it, the building it really quirky and old-going upstairs is like the crooked house it’s got character, landlady (babs) is fab very welcoming, all staff were very friendly and helpful, the food is amazing good for seafood, breakfast is a must, This is not the ritz but great value we loved it and will certainly return so beware BABS we will be back for round two x

Unfortunately cannot give less than one star. Positive note is that staff were very friendly and breakfast was very good. Grade 2 listed building so they cannot change the odd room access and narrow stairs, but it could be clean and freshly painted which it certainly is not. Room 2 has a good view of the bay, but nothing else. Room is very small small. Cheaply painted white and where the white matt emulsion walls have been marked, they have been painted in patches with white silk, so this stands out and looks messy. Brackets on furniture and clothes rack in place to fasten to fittings to the walls have all pulled out of wall. Skirting board near "bathroom" fell off the wall and I had to push it back in place. Door lock stuck regularly. "Bathroom is a partition wall box created in the original bedroom. "Bathroom" door handle old, and has large wood screw in the side of it holding it on. This sticks out by approx an inch and is a hazzard. Ceiling has been replaces and has been very cheaply artexed, so thinly that the plasterboard tape is visible through the artex. Bathroom wall behind cystern and also near toilet roll is dirty and there are brown streaks on door frame inside bathroom. Trim around base of shower is missing, and from floor to shower entry is plain bare wood with mastic on it that previously held a trim on. There is also a hole approx 30 cm long and 15 cms high in the shower base with bare pipes entering under the shower base and showing clear access under the floor. Did not want to use the shower as it has clearly seen better days. Grout was brown in many places. Toilet seat loose and moving when used. Worst of all was black painted cupboards in bedroom with strips of paint missing and a mirror hooked to top cupboard door. When I opened the cupboards to store suitcases, they were full, from floor to ceiling with offcuts of plaster board, presumably from the ceiling, and also an old sink hand basin. Clearly the owner thinks so little of his guests that he couldn't even be bothered to get rid of this building rubble. If we had had somewhere else to stay or the time to look for an alternative accomodation, then we would have. I did bring the condition of the room to the attention of the staff and they just said they know it was bad, and that they had told the owner many times, but he doesn't seem to care and won't spend anything to put it right. I was told that he makes his money from the pub and meals and the rooms are just a bit extra. I asked them to pass my comments on to him, but next day, when we were leaving, there had been no response. Staff were friendly, though I thought they were a bit demoralised. Breakfast is good, but you can go in and buy that on its own. Do not stay here no matter what. Maldon is a beautiful town and I will go back, but not to this place.

This is the second time my mum and I have been here for lunch. It’s so cosy and warm inside and the lunch was delicious and well presented. We sat at a table looking out over the river. Service very good. Prices reflect quality of food. Will be back.

Design of this place is very friendly and welcoming as you feel yourself at home. Staff of the hotel are very well trained and experienced in their duties. They don't behave very rigid and formal and that's why you feel very comfortable. Hotel's facilities are brand new and very clean. This hotel is very small but it's staff are capable to give you five star hotel hospitality. Hotel building looks old but it's rooms have what you need to have a good stay with low budget. I had a very delicious breakfast during my staying. Hotel is located in a beautiful and quiet area that makes you more relaxed. The price of the rooms including breakfast were £20 cheaper than other hotels in that area. I had a wonderful night in Jolly Sailor Hotel in Maldon and recommend everyone with limited budget to stay there. I wish them all the best and success and a happy new year.

Walking along Harbour went into one pub did not like the feel for us on this day then walked up to the Jolly Sailor-Fish on the Quay, the second we walked inside a young lady called Verity was so welcoming and friendly made us feel great we ate dinner which was superb pub lunch then we had coffee requested it extra hot was no problem for Verity, great atmosphere in this pub would recommend this to everyone even if you just want Coffee

Really enjoyed our stay here. All the staff were so welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. Quirky access to room but not a problem, room was clean and bed very comfortable. Ideally situated on the Quay and short walk into the town. Breakfast was excellent, couldn't do enough for us. Would stay again.
