We stayed there on 3 separate occasions, hiking in the area. There was something wrong and not working or missing in ALL the rooms we stayed in, one room was the same twice on separate dates and was even worse. Beware of the staff, most are fine but on man with grey hair, grasses and a pony tail, who seem some kind of manager, was extremely rude and arrogant and even shut the réception window in our face. I had email confirmation for all bookings for ONE room and for one night we were charged for two. When I pointed this out, he virtually called me a liar and said I had booked two. The jacuzzi was so hot on our first stay that it burnt my calves. When I Enquires with the same man if it was now less hot o our second stay, he rudely dismissed me and said he had put his hand in it and it was fine. Don't stay there, there is better. The worse customer service I have ever seen!

this is an old hotel with four flights of stairs and no elevator, including a long flight upstairs just to get to the front desk. And then there are two more flights upstairs to the top floor so if you need an elevator, this ain't a hotel to stay in at all. Prices were fair at about $150 a night. The room was adequate not out of date. It was clean. The mattresses were good. It did have two areas in the main restroom with a sink outside the restroom, which is nice. the office doesn't open till 8 o'clock in the morning and the snack lunch they offer is not available till 8 o'clock so if you're an early riser, you don't get any of the free food. I wouldn't stay here again. there has just gotta be better choices for that price range

BEWARE before booking. This place is listed as refundable, but you have to read the small print. They do not allow for any changes or cancellations, even 4-6 weeks out, without retaining a full night stay + fees. During prime season this is >$300. I tried to reschedule immediately after booking due to a work meeting I cannot miss. After repeated attempts to ask for a refund or credit or reschedule, they said absolutely not, this is our policy. Which seems ridiculous considering its peak season and they could immediately re-booked it (likely for a higher price) or at least offered a credit for a future stay, but the staff was unhelpful and curt. Basically told me to go kick rocks. Does the hotel have a right to maintain an unreasonable cancelation policy? Sure, but there are plenty of other hotels in the area with free cancelation. Why risk it? Just book somewhere else.

Beware: arrived just after 10.00 PM for 2 night 2 room stay. Nobody present to greet, just 2 envelopes sitting on desk with room #s & keys. Entered very small room with tiniest 6' x 6' bathroom fitted with sink, toilet & shower, hardly room to move. Luggage rack in closet but only place it will fit when in use is in the closet due to size of room. 1 packet of coffee for 1 cup beside a coffee maker. No creamers. TV would not work, then discovered next day that it was not even plugged in. They advertise 'breakfast included'! Breakfast in a small lobby consisted of a bowl of green granny Smith's or some other brand of sour apples, hard boiled eggs, single flavor small muffins & coffee. Keep in mind how much you are paying for this and compare to any Best Western or such like chain with much larger rooms, bathrooms, service and vastly superior breakfast offering. Wait...it gets worse... leaving to go sightsee, we left the provided 'SERVICE PLEASE' hanger on door knob, same message on both sides. Returned at 6.00 PM to find rooms exactly as we left them. Again, nobody at desk, picked up house phone, man answers saying he'll be down shortly. He asks 'did you place a hanger on door?' If you did, that's YOUR problem! It's our fault! No apology of any kind and this is the owner! He goes into a storeroom, returns saying he has only 1 bath towel! Where I come from, Ireland, SERVICE PLEASE, means your beds are remade, the bathroom is cleaned, towels replaced etc. But not in this place. We encountered a lady at checkout who we think is the owners wife. She would not speak until you spoke first. Checked out without one single word of appreciation or thanks. Just nasty people here. They have a large restaurant and bar and we had looked at the menu online. Looked nice but at the time of booking there was no mention that both were closed for the off season. If you chose to stay here, bring your own towels, bed linens, vacuum and food! You also want to have a companion to chat with since the adults who work here don't talk unless spoken to. Welcome to Mammoth.

4 stars for the friendly & helpful desk staff; Larry, Kim, Jo Louis & Jose. Overall, the lodge looks dated & definitely needs some new carpets & curtains. The beds are clean & so is the bathroom. Breakfast is basic, no-frills, that you just grab & go. The lodge offers fresh fruits, hard boiled eggs, muffins & banana bread that you throw in a brown bag. Coffee & Tea are included. This works for the guests who are usually skiers & hikers who just require basic breakfast. Parking is easy, be sure no food is left in the vehicle, bears do roam in the area. For skiers, the location is good since you can just walk to the nearby ski lift. About a block down is the bus stop for the trolley that goes downtown, another great convenience. There's a hot tub on the balcony overlooking the parking lot. Don't get the room close to the stairs on the main floor if you want to get good sleep. Another plus is the location in a nice, quiet neighborhood.

Classic ski lodge accommodation. The restaurant was decent but fairly expensive. Would probably stay again during ski season because of the great ski-in/ski-out location. Desk attendant was very helpful.

Dishonesty is the policy at this hotel. 1) READ THE CANCELLATION POLICY CAREFULLY. It reads pleasantly like you have seven days prior to get a refund--but as soon as you "push the button" that first night will never be refunded. In our instance, we cancelled weeks ahead---realized we'd made a calendar mistake---so rebooked on that same day, for the original date. No intention of cancelling. Called weeks ahead to rectify, there was no resolution with the front desk---just a lot of excuses. On arrival date, still no resolution to help us out, front desk gave more excuses---I don't think this hotel understands what hospitality means. 2) CHECK YOUR BILL FOR INFLATED CHARGES. In what I assume was a rare moment of honesty on their part, they decided to let us use the funds as a credit for a future stay. We altered our plans to come back and use the credit several days later. The rate we were quoted as well as the rate that was online was less than the credit. Our intent was to take the rest of credit and distribute it to housekeeping. Imagine our surprise when we went to check in and they'd charged us the full amount of the credit. That is deceptive, morally wrong, deceitful and fraudulent. After we raised a stink about that, I believe it was the owner who gave us the overcharge back on our credit card. The location of the hotel is great---and I think they'll always do well because of that. But buyer beware, this isn't a place you'll feel like you've been treated well or fairly.

I always try to support small and private businesses but decided to no longer support Austria Hof. Even changing the date or room type will cause you the first night charge penalty and they won't credit you even if you are staying on a different date or room type. It had happened to me twice and ended up paying nearly $600 for nothing. Their website is not user friendly and has some issues choosing room type. The room type automatically scrolls to the left (basic room) side of choices, so be careful. Okay, I selected the wrong type so rebooked after a minute with the right one and asked them to cancel the first one. I explained the reason why I rebooked but the management will not hear you and would not appreciate you even if you are a regular and still staying with them. I don't understand why they won't refund the money or credit it to my upcoming stay. The credit card company reimburse merchants more when they process refunds, not all the time but usually they get it back at a higher rate. Hard to get them the right person on the phone and email was only responded to once and no returned call... Despite their outdated building and rooms and dysfunctional amenities, to support the small business I made a direct reservation but I watested hard earned money. I stay in hotels an average 42 days a year and it was the worst hospitality experience by the management.

We have stayed at this hotel a few times and were a little disappointed this time. We couldn't check in until 4:00 sharp but there was no place to wait. The lobby is tiny and the bar was closed until 4. At breakfast the coffee was terrible and the muffins were stale. The rooms are fine and the restaurant is great. The bar is great once it's open. We will stay here again because you can walk to the ski area, so the location is the real draw.
