I had a stay of 5 nights in the Nove Lazne, followed by 2 more nights in the connected Hvezda which I will review separately. They are quite different experiences though some of the facilities are shared. I travelled on my own in February 2023. I had a wonderful time at the Nove Lazne. Attentive and helpful staff, excellent spa/wellness facilities, a lovely room (if a bit old fashioned) and very good dining for a buffet at such a reasonable price. I went half-board, so breakfast and dinner only, which was enough for me. I was delighted to be given my own table for the duration of the stay, with the same team of waiting staff all the way through. This was really good as they got to know what I wanted (as soon as she saw me in the mornings, Maria set off for my large cappuccino). As a consequence it is only personable to chat to your fellow guests whose faces you get to know, and as someone on my own I thought this lovely and charming. I spoke mostly Russian to staff and guests (good practice for me), learning some courtesy words in Czech, but it seems there are enough English and German speaking staff and guests about. Food was pretty good for the challenge of setting out a buffet every night (though on one night there was a set menu and a pianist to accompany dinner. Really good). It is mostly Eastern European fare (fine for me, I love it), though I also noted plenty of vegetarian options. I might avoid the soup (too watery), but there was plenty of choice (and very good salads and bread). At breakfast they cooked up a fresh omlete for me every morning. Great. I was delighted by the experience of the Roman Baths, and this is also accessible if you stay in any of the numerous hotels in the complex, connected as they are by a maze of corridors and lifts. Don't be put off by them, it is worth having a look around, and it also allows use of the fitness centre in the central hotel and the swimming pool in the Hvezda. I used both during my stay, though you can give the pool a miss if you are in the Nove Lazne: it is a bit of a walk for similar facilities and there are a lot more kids there, which didn't suit me. I also used the massage services and had a superb cup of hot chocolate in the Wiener Cafe. I found it easy to request what I wanted from the spa, and again very helpful staff that were friendly and efficient. I have never stayed anywhere quite like this before and I really enjoyed the experience. It is cold in Marianske Lane in February, and I left the hotel only a few times for a walk in the general vicinity: it is a beautiful town, but very quiet during my stay (I am guessing the regular Russian tourists can't get money out to fund their holidays). I am likely to come again, and as a winter destination it is really top class for rest and relaxation. My body has been pampered and soaked and sweated and I have really switched off for once. Many thanks for such a great stay.
