Deeping Stage

First rate stay at The Stage. Tony - the incredibly hardworking manager made sure our stay was perfect. We stayed in Room 3 - a twin - which has obviously been recently refurbished in a pleasing neutral colour scheme. Beds very comfortable with fresh crisp white linen. Shower room equipped with lovely large white towels . Heating perfectly toasty & a proper 32inch TV rather than a silly little thing on the wall. We ate in the restaurant & my steak was excellent with a delicious peppercorn sauce. My mother had the seabass with a gorgeous lemon & chorizo sauce . Unfortunately the bed of samphire which it was served on was a bit woody but Tony swept into action insisting that he treat her to a pudding to make up for it. So - we had the perfect excuse to sample the sticky toffee pudding. Absolutely delicious & and huge individual pudding which almost defeated 2 of us! Decent selection of wines at a reasonable price. Super nights sleep- despite the fact that our room was above the front entrance - totally undisturbed by any noise even though it was a busy Saturday night. Delicious breakfast- eggs Benedict with lovely hollandaise & perfect runny egg & a huge cooked English- excellent quality. All served by smiling young staff supervised by the ever- present Tony ( when does he sleep!) Really good to see a hands-on manager who leads by example & is not above clearing tables himself. Visited, off the cuff last night. Fabulous service in the restaurant from Molly and the best steak I've had in years. Cooked to perfection. Not the cheapest, especially as the sauce was an extra £4 but I would definitely recommend and I'll be back soon.

The Deeping Stage is an old coaching inn, in the Market town of Market Deeping. The downstairs and outside areas have clearly had considerable investment. The external bar area with the river drifting past is a great place to sit and relax. The staff were friendly enough once we had got over the fact that we were trying to check in too early and once we had located one. We stayed in room 1. The room itself is clean and fresh looking, with a super king size bed. The ceilings are high, but even then we found the room really stuffy as there is no air con and whilst the single glazed window keeps out very little of the vehicle and people based noise, it would be worse if you open it. Now I was sure I had added a note to the hotel to ask them for a room at the rear of the hotel as I am aware it is directly on to the street. Room 1 is directly on to the street, above a bus stop and just down from another late night bar. When we got back to the hotel that night, the noise from the street. the bar down the road with the never ending 'doof.doof,doof' of the base beat and hearing baz, laz, shaz and maz who regularly feel out of the front of the hotel to shout -speak at each other. The curtains were so thin that no light is kept out and are not secured at the ends of the curtain poles. I eventually dropped off at about 3.30, to be woken by brilliant sunshine at 5.00am. The basin is cracked, the vent in the bathroom is thick with dust and there is black mould on the grout. The breakfast was really nice, well cooked, a good selection and served hot. We won't be back.

Went to the restaurant on a Friday night. The starter & mains were very good. My friend ordered the apple & Rhubarb crumble for desert, as soon as it was placed in front of her it was obvious the top was uncooked. We called the waitress back & she took it away. When she came back she told us the chef had turned the grill off. No offer to cook it properly. I filled in a feedback from the Stage the next morning saying what type of restaurant allows uncooked food to leave the kitchen & who in their right mind thinks it’s a good idea to present it to a paying customer. No response. It’s such a shame as it used to be so good.

Friendly and helpful. Our car broke down and we needed to stay with it until the RAC arrived. There weren’t any sandwich shops open so decided to pop into the restaurant. This is not a take away restaurant but they came to our aid with a plated meal ( smoked salmon salad), which was delicious.

Very Poor quality. Had the light bite falafel flatbread with hummus. Shop bought falafel, no dressing or lemon. Very little taste and dry. Had to ask for extra hummus as it was almost non existent. To be honest this was prepared by either a disinterested chef or very tight guidelines to what he/she could serve. Won't be returning. Shame really as used to be a lovely place to eat.

As a place to eat...I won't anymore. Used to be good pub food with excellent service, now iys sloppy, poor quality food with no taste. The only good thing is the view of the river to have a drink. Even that is spoilt by parents ignoring their children throwing rocks into the water ans the giant screen tv blaring. Avoid.

Popped in for lunch with no booking (on a Tuesday). Friendly, quick service. Basic pub food was fine, though mushy peas portions were extremely small. Reasonable value overall. I can't comment on the beer as I was driving and thus didn't have any.

Gone are the days when you can go for a peaceful pint in a pub. We had to put up with a continual barking dog outside, we went inside just to get some peace. I find it annoying at why in this lovely weather we should be forced inside because owners cannot control their dogs. Why are dogs allowed in pubs!!! I thought this was a place to sit, talk and enjoy your pint! Gone are those days!! We always go to the stage, over 20 years we have been going. Barking dogs, dogs in general need to have responsible owners when others are just wanting a nice peaceful pint.
