Comfortable, clean room, well equipped with kettle, tea, coffee etc. That may sound obvious, but in France and Germany, you won't normally get all that. In Belgium, thank goodness, they generally do have it. Good bed, quiet, with private parking, although A. you won't need it because there's lots of room in the road, and B. you pay 10 Euros per night for it! And it's well within easy waking distance of the town square, where the restaurants and bars are. The lady on breakfast duty gets a special mention, as her bacon and eggs (not on the menu, so you need to ask) were just the job. One star off however for the inadequate lighting in the room. I like to read in bed, and I couldn't. Common problem, but it needs mentioning. Ideal for battlefield tours of the Battle of Mons in 1914.
