Just returned from 13 days in this wonderful hotel. She is undergoing renovations and may be in need of a nip and tuck here and there, possibly a little make up to cover her cracks. She still has beauty, style, romance and plenty of history to offer her guests. The hotel is a very safe environment with 24 hour security and reception services. On arrival you enter into a beautiful courtyard with waterfalls and fountains, then greeted by the concierge in his colonial style uniform and directed to the reception area for a cool welcome drink. Reception staff all greet you with a smile and are professional at all times. Our ocean view room (218) was very comfortably furnished, safe included (no extra cost) balcony with breathtaking views over the garden and ocean. Sunrise and sunset directly in front t of our room. Iron and ironing board included a bonus too! Housekeeping staff kept our room clean and tidy, bottled water left every day and sheets and towels changed daily. Laundry service available. Thank you to the team. The Terrace and Governors restaurant are the dining options (the fish restaurant on the beach closed under renovation). Breakfast choices were numerous, highly recommend the "hoppers". Two lovely ladies served us most mornings, Aruni and Piyumanthi, their smiles would light up a room, carrying out their duties in a very efficient manner, nothing too much trouble. At breakfast, lunch and dinner there was plenty of choices to suit all tastes, curry for breakfast a real treat, whilst dinner had different themes each evening. Our favourite being Sri Lankan evening. Other options, International, Italian, Spanish, Indian, BBQ all excellent quality. Vegetarian options also offered. Fresh fruits and desserts again plenty of choices. Our waiters deserve a special mention, Chamidu and his colleague Rohannon (sure I have misspelt his name, sorry) both very professional at all times. Thank you guys. Dinner also served by candlelight on the terrace, weather permitting. Live music at dinner each evening. Bars are on the Terrace and the lower reception area, Banuka can create an excellent brandy Alexander !! The swimming pool is opposite the terrace and has fantastic views across to Colombo and out over the ocean. The pool is maintained to a very high standard by Banduka, water quality and cleanliness are 100% guaranteed. A watchful eye at all times on his guests. Loungers, parasols and towels are provided, there is a changing area with showers and lockers. The grounds are looked after by the gardening crew and are well maintained. For a romantic history lesson, Jeewan ( recognised by his red sash) is available to take you on a tour of the small museum at the hotel, just ask and he will oblige. There is also a private beach with lifeguard in attendance, loungers and towels provided. Summing up, Mount Lavinia is value for money hotel with a fascinating history andwelcoming, professional staff . We will recommend her to family and
