El Toro Motel

Definitely not a place I’d recommend. There is no reception service and we had to wait 10 mins and a couple of phone calls before someone arrived. The ‘receptionist’ when she arrived didn’t have a key to get into the office and had to go back to a cafe on the main road. Then when I tried to pay, the machine wouldn’t work and after a few phone calls with an absentee owner, she said she had to go get another one - another 5-10 mins. We just dumped our bags and left for a funeral we had to attend. Later we had to go through the process again of getting someone to check us in. Again it took 15 mins of phone calls. Extremely bad service. Our room is adequate but barely 3 star. $110 with no glasses, plates or cutlery (except 1 teaspoon), no kettle in the room and no wifi. The bathroom smells like it needs a good clean and the fridge also (that was turned off and smelled of mould). There is only 1 bedside lamp with its switch under the bed and the 1 overhead light is operated only from a switch at the entrance. There seems to be a permanent group of residents - itinerant workers apparently. We have stayed here a couple of times the last time just 8 months ago and felt it was OK for the price but we would definitely not recommend it to anyone unless they are desperate.

A group of us stayed here 12 months ago and although a bit run down it was passable so we booked again for the same event as it is the only motel in Numurkah. We booked for 2 nights with friends but we left after one night. Hard to list everything that was wrong. We booked months ago and confirmed our booking prior to arrival but we did not get the rooms we had booked. The place was dirty, even more run down, and service terrible. Some of our rooms were missing towels, toilet paper, crockery etc. Reception was closed the whole time we were there, had to phone owner for each check in or request for assistance, who then arrived from elsewhere after a while. One of our group was told there wasn't a room available despite our booking and were put in the flat which was a disgrace. No hot water, toilet paper, the TV didn't work, curtains were missing, broken fittings and the shower was a health hazard if it had worked!!! Our friends were told to use the shower in another unit when we complained. There is no way that this place would pass a basic inspection as suitable for occupancy. Do not stay here. Arrange to stay somewhere else or in another town.

2 night stay with a reasonable double bed, microwave, toaster and good hot water. Room was clean but all very dated and bathroom 'area' a bit of a mish-mash of components. Owners live on site but no attempt I am aware to limit the near all-night noise and exploits of a drug-fuelled, arguing couple.

The motel really needs an overhaul,. Looking at the edging around the bathroom door, it is rotting. Looking at the shower I did not feel comfortable about showering. Would I recommend this place, no , would I go back no. Even if you have to go onto the next town before you stay here. The air conditioner was on heat all night and the room was cold all night.
