The hotel was undergoing a roof replacement during our stay and every effort was made to lessen the inconvenience to guests and a credit was offered. Some rooms are underwhelming when seen in person but our Lorne Suite was huge and lovely. In spite of the criticism of the blackout curtains, they worked fine. Only a few things could have been improved, like the chair with broken caning on the seat that should have been removed for safety reasons, and the strange blue pedestals with vases (and dead roses) on either side of the fireplace that detracted from its elegant beauty. While the hotel is an interesting blend of history and eclectic modernism, the food is the star. We had a memorable dinner, followed by incredible breakfast. Service was amazing and the concierge, Sean, was outstanding. He seemed to be everywhere ensuring guests had a wonderful experience and we were certain he never sleeps. He is a treasure to the establishment and exemplifies the best of customer service. Although we were nervous about the construction taking place, it ended up being just a minor inconvenience.
