Staying at The Ashok Beach Resort in Pondicherry was a complete disaster. Calling this place a “resort” is an insult to anyone who’s ever enjoyed a proper holiday. First off, the so-called private beach was anything but private. It was covered in cow dung, with cows and stray dogs wandering around everywhere, making it impossible to relax or enjoy the view. As if that wasn’t enough, the swimming pool had actual live wires in the water. Seriously, who does that? It was a full-on safety hazard. The bathroom was another nightmare. The water pressure in the sink was so weak, it was practically unusable, and the whole bathroom looked like it was about to fall apart. Housekeeping? Forget it. They’d “clean” the room, then touch drinking water bottles with the same dirty hands. Gross. And, of course, they never bothered to restock any of the daily essentials. The breakfast was laughable. For a room rate of around 9,000 rupees a night, I expected at least a decent spread. Instead, we got something that felt straight out of a roadside stall: sad dosa, dry idli, basic bread, and flavorless upma. The fancy dining area they show in the photos? Closed. Instead, we had to eat in a mosquito-infested open space with zero hygiene standards. I actually saw a staff member handling bread slices with his bare hands. And don’t even get me started on the live counter—eggs and dosas cooked on the same grimy tawa. It was enough to make anyone lose their appetite. And the worst part? After we complained to the hotel manager about all this, we came out the next day to find our car scratched up in the hotel parking lot. Coincidence? I doubt it. It felt like a clear message for daring to speak up about their mess. I’m definitely filing a consumer complaint, and I have photos to prove how bad it really was. Bottom line: save your money and your sanity. This place is a total disgrace and not worth the stress.
