Premier Inn Portsmouth Dockyard

Ok place to stay.

We were visiting the Mary Rose at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard as a pre Christmas treat and so this hotel was ideal for the trip. We booked a Premier Plus room which was a good idea because it meant we had the quality, comfort and cleanliness of a Premier Inn (with their fabulously comfortable bed !) but with some extra space and amenities, together with a great view to embellish the experience. The room was therefore ideal for our stay. The downside of the Portsmouth Dockyard Premier inn unfortunately is the attached restaurant (Bar & Block Steakhouse). It was dreadful and very disappointing, to the extent that we did not use it for breakfast and only one of our evening meals. It is the only restaurant branded as a "Steakhouse" that we have been to where the kitchen staff seem totally incapable of cooking streak properly. It took two unsuccessful attempts for a rump steak to be cooked rare ; the first was delivered dried and well done and the replacement dry medium-well (and with no apology from the disinterested staff) The alleged "Beef dripping Triple cooked chunky chips" were simply the equivalent of Albert Bartlett Frozen Oven Chips as they were neither chunky or tasted like potato triple cooked in beef dripping. Frankly an uninviting, noisy, uncomfortable environment producing over-priced low quality food by apparently poorly trained staff. We are sure Whitbread could do better as they need to "up their game" for Premier Inn customers. ( I have not included a photo of the charred, dried-out, succulent steak or misbranded chips but a photo can be provided if requested)

The hotel is ideally situated for transport links. It has a good quality restaurant and the staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are good quality, clean and tidy. Ideal base for people exploring the local area and getting the local tourist sites
