LOCATION: Hotel SUISSE is conveniently located at Via da Mez 151, mere steps from the main square of Piazza Comunale. Most places of interest are within easy walking distance: Casa Console, Casa Tomé, Palazzo de Bassus-Mengotti, Chiesa Evangelica and San Vittore can all be reached on foot in just a few minutes. Poschiavo train station is approx. 350m away. After you exit station, go down the main road then cross a footbridge spanning over the river Poschiavino, which will bring you to the rear of Hotel Suisse, a 4-storey greyish building. It is a small family-run property of 25 rooms. ROOM: booked a Standard Twin but pleasantly surprised to receive a Complimentary Upgrade to their Van Gogh Room on the top floor with spectacular mountain vistas from its balcony! The spacious room was clean and simply furnished with: wall-mounted TV facing twin beds; pair of bedside tables with reading lamps; small desk with chair in a corner; and wall mirror over console table by the door. The wardrobe and open-shelving unit offer ample storage along with hangers, luggage rack, safe-deposit box and tea-making facilities. Balcony looks out onto the rooftops of nearby buildings and the magnificent Rhaetian Alps in the distance. Delightful to sit out here with a cup of tea while enjoying the splendid views all round. BATHROOM: well-lit, clean and of good size. Furnished with the usual: mirror over wash basin; wall-mounted hairdryer; shower stall; and toilet. Shower stall was compact in size but had good water pressure and consistent flow of hot water. Adequate bath linen, toilet rolls, box of tissues and basic toiletries like hand soap provided. Razor, toothbrush & toothpaste are available on request from Reception. F&B: Breakfast Service is 7:30-10:00 and is served in a spacious dining room on the 1st floor. Buffet breakfast seemed to be a generous spread comprising: various breads & croissants; jams & butter; cereals & müesli; yoghurt; assorted cheeses and cold cuts. Beverage choices include milk, juices, tea & coffee. Alas, there wasn’t much that I could safely consume due to dietary restrictions & food allergies. Apparently eggs are available on request but none of the staff seemed to understand English so I wasn’t able to order any. Hotel owns the nearby La Terrasse du Suisse, a pizzeria & restaurant which serves Swiss/Italian regional cuisine. It’s open for Lunch Service from 11:30-14:00 and Dinner Service is 17:30-21:30. If you wish to dine elsewhere, there are many F&B options around Piazza Comunale. Hotel also has a Bar on-site named La Cave du Suisse which is open till late nightly. SERVICE: Staff at Breakfast Service were rather surly and brusque at times, which marred a good start to the day. Frontline Staff speak Italian and/or German, most don’t seem to understand English which meant that any attempt at communication proved futile. Thankfully, the gentleman who attended to me at Check-Out did speak English and was kin
