Puerto Azul Hotel & Marina

A decent place to stay if you have to be in Puntareans. Room needs better maintenance. Lots of little things wrong but usuable. The pool was quite nice. Has a good gym. Dinner at restaurant was very good. There were a lot of mosquitoes. They should work harder to control them. A lot of road noise on that side of hotel, pay more and stay on the marina side. Nothing in walking distance. Taxis were oddly expensive.

This would have been a nice hotel at one time but the pool and room are rundown. The immediate area around the hotel doesn’t look safe for tourists especially at night.

First the good part: Cindy, a member of the wait staff (at breakfast time) in the restaurant was attentive, professional, friendly, and a joy to know. That's the end of the good. Everything else was bad. We were a late arrival (11:30PM). We tried to call ahead of time (before 5PM), but no one answered the phone. When we arrived, at a non-manned reinforced gate with absolutely no signage or identification that we had even found the right place, we pressed the button at the entrance, and it was answered with chaotic background noise and speaking; no one even addressing us (in any language). After 2-3 minutes, we were about to leave, when the gate opened, and a security guard appeared. She presented us with the room key, and directed us to our room. So now the condition of the room: One of the two bathrooms had no soap, and did not smell clean. In the other, the sink didn't drain, the shower didn't drain, and the toilet ran until you manually lifted the handle. There was one towel provided, no hand towels, no wash cloths, and no floor mat towel. No one was in the office, so there was no one to call for the issues to be addressed (and perhaps move us to a more presentable and functional room). Apparently there was supposed to be a welcome card with this information, but there wasn't one. The room was hot, and the air conditioner was weak enough that it didn't get cool for more than an hour - well after we went to bed. Mgmt offered little empathy and no compensation.

The pictures of the tall nice hotel posted in there ad is the property next door! Theirs is only 2 story’s tall and is very very dated. Noisy. Tv didn’t work. Shower didn’t drain. Overall not bad for the price but expected more.

A great value hotel for a 1 night stopover before we flew home.. Good location, secure site. It's a little basic. There is no lift. Breakfast was included , was very basic. Our one day by the pool was spoilt by continuous loud music from the bar competing with another residents boom box by the pool

I stayed for a few days and loved it there! The amenities offered are great, the staff was so helpful and friendly, the restaurant and bar was convenient if we didn’t feel like going out, and everything was kept clean throughout our stay. I would definitely stay here again!

Puterenas is a busy port and not really a center for tourism. I reserved here as a halfway point from Tamarindo to Quepos. What a wonderful surprise. Beautiful large condo unit with fabulous views of the water and boats on both sides of the property. 2 great pools, full professional gym with all the machines and free weights, and a great little restaurant.

Decent overalll and not overpriced as many others are. Not much around to do unless you drive to beaches like hour hour and half away. or the lighthouse area like 30 mins away. Overall good value but not a 5 star place either. Rooms more than adequate and service is good as well. Do not do laundry there as you will be ripped off. The hotel subs this service out and they charge by the piece. I sent three small bags, perhaps the equivalent of 5 -7 lbs of assorted items and bill came back at $95 !!! Don’t do laundry there . Good breakfast included daily. Friendly staff .

The pictures are ALL lies! This place was horrible! First of all our front door wouldn’t open, there was black mold on the walls, cold water only.. no hot water, bed was small and very uncomfortable, lumpy pillows. The reception and servicers were good. The food/ bar was decent, and you can tell they are trying, but overall the building is falling apart with lack of maintenance. It’s a dumpster fire. Would not recommend staying here!
