Staying at Gemma Resort was one big disappointment. What was supposed to be a relaxing getaway turned into a collection of absurdities and a prime example of discriminatory treatment towards guests. Pool bar: The alcohol was so watered down it felt like drinking tap water might have been a better option. The staff were rude and unhelpful, but the real insult came when watching the Italian guests being treated like royalty. They received coffee from an actual espresso machine, while the rest of us were served something from a machine that barely resembled coffee. Main restaurant: The restaurant staff acted like you were a burden if you weren’t Italian. Decent treatment required tips, and even then, it was hit or miss. The food selection was laughably small, especially when the hotel wasn’t fully booked, and hot dishes weren’t replenished regularly. To top it off, they often shut the restaurant an hour early, as if opening it at all was doing us a favor. The room: The room that was meant to be a haven offered a “breathtaking” view… of the desert and a construction site. The fridge was noisy and barely functional, with an iceberg-sized chunk of ice inside. Only one outlet by the bed made charging devices an inconvenience, and cleaning was done so superficially you’d think they were counting on the room to clean itself. Overall impressions: If you don’t speak Italian, good luck. The staff spoke fluent Italian but struggled with basic English, making even simple requests a challenge. The entertainment? Entirely in Italian, leaving the rest of us feeling like spectators at a show we didn’t buy tickets for. As the cherry on top, the hotel operates on its own time zone (+1 hour to local time), which only added to the chaos. In summary – Gemma Resort blatantly favors Italian guests, treating everyone else like second-class customers. Poor service, mediocre food, neglected rooms, and a general lack of professionalism make this “resort” a farce of a holiday destination. Save yourself the trouble (and money) and choose a hotel where every guest is treated with respect, not just those who speak the “right” language.
