This is the worst hotel I’ve stayed in…ever. I’ve stayed in a few hotels in different cities of China and have not yet experienced such difficulty in communicating/ checking in and out. I would certainly not recommend this hotel to anyone, whether you speak Chinese or not and hope that staff from the hotel can read through my feedback and experience.
Summary of main issues;
1: There is no reception desk and no obvious check in/ check out process. Security guards operate the front desk and couldn’t have possibly been more unhelpful. Refused to believe I didn’t speak Chinese and wouldn’t talk into my translate app either. Took me over an hour to check in as the security guard wasn’t sure if I was in the right hotel, and appeared to not know what I should do. Eventually he called a member of staff and then took me up to a room (which definitely was upsold in the pictures on trip.com but that’s for another point). Check out was also horrendous. I was in a rush as I wanted to do a few touristy things before my train but I had to deal with the same security guard again. He couldn’t communicate how to check out, and took me an hour of going back and forth between floors, calling the hotel contact number, and asking other guests in the hotel before I found out you have to go to a specific room on the 9th floor to hand roomcard back. Waste of my time and horrible end to trip. This should have been detailed in the booking information. The lady in this room wasn’t even there and there was a queue of people waiting by the time she turned up. Due to the lack of reception staff I didn’t feel like there was anything I could do to complain about/ rectify the disgraceful condition of the room either.
2. Room was not as seen in the pictures on trip.com. I stayed in a premium double room, which was filthy. Dirty everywhere and hadn’t been properly cleaned/ maintained. See pictures for comparison.
3. Bathroom in awful condition. Exposed tiles in the bathroom revealing old plasterboard. Mouldy patch with wallpaper flaking off in the bathroom too - please see pictures. I felt very uncomfortable using this bathroom. Mirror was also grotty, and open packets of disposable toothbrushes left for me to use. Furthermore, no hand soap is provided at this hotel. Drainage issue in the shower meant I had to shower in a puddle of water which would spill into the bathroom - plus nowhere to hang up towels. All in all, felt like a public toilet.
4. Mouldy food and an unwashed/ mouldy towel was left in the cupboard under the sink. Also pictured.
5. There is an ancient boiler right by the bed that makes a continuous sound of trickling water that was highly annoying.
6. Furthermore the bed was not comfortable and had only 2 small pillows (for a queen bed). This was not a cheap hotel stay so I expect better.
In summary, I am beyond disappointed with my stay at this hotel and rank it my worst hotel experience of all time. If I’d arrived earlier on the night on Friday I would have 100% left this hotel and searched for another place to stay. If any member of staff sees this and reads this far, under normal circumstances I would expect full compensation for my stay, and some explanation for the disgraceful state of my room. If you are going to accept foreigners to stay here, I encourage you to communicate the checkout and checkin process with them upon booking, and educate the security guard on the process too if they are to be the only point of contact with people staying here.
