Relais Parco Cavalonga

We recently returned from 2 weeks at Parco Cavalonga; we are a family of 4 and were self-catering, staying in Casa Donnafugata. We had a wonderful holiday and really enjoyed having this lovely Relais as our base. Our villa was very elegant with a basic but well-equipped kitchen, 2 decent bathrooms and a large, airy living area. The air-con was effective so we were cool at night. The furnishings were basic but stylish and charming. All the towels and linen were good quality and replaced each week. We had a lovely terrace giving perfect views of the stunning sunsets each evening. The grounds of the Relais are full of typical Sicilian plants and trees: carobs, figs, prickly pear, bougainvillea, olives etc. This is a very hot, very dry land, so of course it is not all green and lush, but it is fragrant and very mediterranean. We used the large infinity pool that the self-catering villas share; there are plenty of sunbeds and we never had difficulty finding space. We ate breakfast in the hotel on several mornings and very much enjoyed the buffet-style array of local cheese, honey and fruit as well as scrambled egg, toast, meats and always cake! We also enjoyed dinner in the hotel twice - a set-menu is served at 8pm, on the delightful terrace. The choices were all local and well cooked and we would recommend it. All the staff were very helpful and kind; they even ordered and collected a cake for us to celebrate our daughter's 15th birthday - so they very much go the extra mile for their guests. It is true that the villas and pools could probably do with a little TLC before too long, but this hotel (like many in Italy and across Europe) no doubt took a huge financial hit during covid, so they no doubt need a little time to recover. We would thoroughly recommend this as a base for a family holiday.

We stayed in Apartment-suite Ibla. The apartment is big, bright, and nicely renovated. The bathrooms work well, as does the AC. The park is wonderful, a perfect (in my opinion) combination of curated and wild. The two swimming pools are well maintained (though not new), have great views, and weren't ever too busy during our stay. The staff is helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. The shortcomings all relate to the apartment. The cooking hob is ancient; four slow hot plates with four knobs - that's it. No safety lights to warn that the plates are hot. No drawing to show which knob goes with which plate, or which way the knob needs to be turned. There is no microwave. There is only one shelf to store the food. In summary, the kitchen is barely usable. In the living room, there are no cabinets. After asking, we were given a plastic table to put in a corner, which did the trick. The drying rack for the laundry is at small as it gets and certainly not sufficient for 6 people. Good thing clothing dries very quickly at 30C+! In summary, the place is beautiful and the expensive bits are all there: large apartment, AC, swimming pools, park. It just needs some additional work and money to go up a notch. Right now it is between 3 and 4 starts but I give it 4 in the hope they will be addressed soon (I emailed all of these points to the hotel). I would probably go back but not a sure thing.

Leuk hotel,mooie grote kamers ,de iets duurdere kamers toch ! Beetje sober ontbijt, wel verzorgd .Heel afgelegen. Min 12 km naar een eetgelegenheid of winkel .Het eten was echt niets super 35eur voor-hoofd en dessert zeker niet duur maar niet lekker! Zag er mooi uit maar niet lekker .Ook andere hotelgasten deden teken naar ons ,van wat is dat hier !

Posto rilassante e parco molto grande e forse proprio per questo maltenuto, con piscina sporca e lettini obsoleti. Per non parlare della camera superior con patio che dovrebbe essere di pertinenza della camera ma invece è aperto al passaggio di chiunque, gatti compresi! Nota positiva la colazione e la gentilezza del personale.

Posto rilassante, grande parco e forse proprio per questo trascurato sotto vari aspetti: piscina sporca e lettini obsoleti. Per non parlare della camera superior con patio...delusione totale con il patio aperto al passaggio degli altri ospiti e gatti in abbondanza!

Sono stato alcuni giorni in vacanza con i miei tre figli. Posto incantevole; gli alloggi sono ampie e generose dimore in stile tipico recuperate conservativamente, dotate di tutti i confort per essere pienamente indipendenti (climatizzazione, cucina attrezzata, lavabiancheria, lavastoviglie), wifi; ingressi indipendenti, ampia corte esclusiva, l'alloggio che abbiamo preso aveva oltre ad un ampio solarium (con barbecue) e tavolo in pietra per mangiare all'aperto, anche un'uscita privata verso la zona delle piscine e della reception. Due piscine, molto ben tenute, immerse nel verde e nel silenzio. Tra le aree comuni la reception con area colazione e cucina a vista. Staff: tutti i membri dello staff sono stati sempre gentili e disponibili, ci hanno aiutato ad organizzare una giornata al mare ed una serata a cena fuori, oltre ad assicurarsi sempre che tutto andasse per il meglio. In auto si raggiungono facilmente tutti i luoghi che si può avere piacere a visitare in zona, da Donnafugata, a pochi minuti, così come in meno di mezz'ora si possono raggiungere Ragusa Iblea, Modica, o il mare di Marina di Ragusa. Tutto il parco è molto ben tenuto, ed è davvero piacevole passeggiare tra vegetazione ed arbusti spontanei tipici della macchia, piante coltivate, alberi di carrubo, nel silenzio che caratterizza un soggiorno rilassante e rigenerante.

We hadden best wel hoge verwachtingen van deze accommodatie obv de website en een aantal recensies. Helaas is de beleving voor ons matig gebleken. Ons appartement zouden wij om 14:00 kunnen betreden, maar bij aankomst moesten wij 40 minuten wachten. Qua voorzieningen vielen er al in het begin een aantal dingen tegen, zoals de keuken die geen theedoek/handdoek/vaatdoek had, douche putje verstopt en douche deur uit sponning, wifi was matig enigszins ontvangst in woonkamer maar niet bij het zwembad of slaapkamers. Wij hebben gebruik gemaakt van het diner ‘s avonds en dat was matig tot correct, wij waren de enige gasten die daar aten, wat eerlijk gezegd ook niet bijdroeg aan de hele beleving. Bij het appartement ontbrak er een ligstoel voor de derde persoon en ook de parasol was kapot. Zwembad water rond uit troebel met een groene afzetting aan de rand. Kwaliteit van de lichtstoelen in het zwembad was teleurstellend; dit was al eerder opgemerkt in vorige recensies, maar blijkbaar wordt dat niet opgepakt. Daarnaast veel overlast van vliegen, uiteraard is dit lastig te beïnvloeden door het management wanneer je verblijft op het platteland. Daarnaast hebben wij een flinke rat zien lopen rond 19:00 ‘s avonds. Helaas hadden we geen geluk, want er was ook een stroomstoring en complete water afsluiting voor meer dan twaalf uren lang, obv daarvan hebben wij de vakantie afgebroken ivm niet kunnen doorspoelen van het toilet en geen douche water. Er zijn ongetwijfeld redenen die verklaren waarom er in de locale infrastructuur dit soort situaties zich kunnen voordoen. Waar het totaal aan ontbrak is pro-activiteit en communicatie vanuit het management. Er werd totaal niet pro-actief gecommuniceerd of oplossingen aangedragen. Zo moesten wij zelf vragen om flessen water en updates omtrent water. Onze indruk is dat er niet voldoende d.m.v. watertanks wordt geanticipeerd op dit soort omstandigheden. All in all lijkt het te ontbreken aan passie en betrokkenheid bij het personeel en dat is niet het geen wat je mag verwachten van een 4 sterren resort.

Parco relais Cavalonga situato a Donnafugata, un hotel a 4 stelle (almeno così dovrebbe essere) avevamo specificato per telefono che saremmo arrivati molto prima dell’orario previsto e che andavamo direttamente in piscina, invece siamo entrati subito in camera trovandola sporca e per niente soddisfacente; CAMERA DELUXE MATRIMONIALE CON VISTA GIARDINO (dicono che sono le camere più belle), situate nel “bel mezzo della natura” ma poca curata, le due piscine sono sporche e malandate, le sdraio alcune strappate e altre rotte. Per quanto riguarda la colazione c’era poca scelta e servizio pessimo, nessuno che viene al tavolo per chiedere se volessimo qualche bevanda all’infuori delle cose che c’erano a disposizione sul tavolo, The o caffè. Consiglio di rivedere un po’ di cose e di avere alcune accortezze con il personale.

Avevamo delle aspettative più alte vedendo le foto nei vari siti ma alla fine é stato un po deludente. Le piscine sono trascurate in quanto sdraio e ombrelloni sono tutte in pessimo stato. Nel complesso la struttura sembra un po abbandonata. Peccato perché potrebbe dare molto di più. Personale molto gentile e disponibile che compensa queste mancanze.
