I was a little apprehensive 🤔 about a backpacking hostel stay, being a little older than the average guest. Approximately 40 years older 😂 But what a fantastic experience I had. The double room (for single use) I had booked was excellent. A very well equipped kitchen, a good hot and strong shower in the en suite and a good comfortable bed. Plus, what can only be described as “some lovely little touches that helped to create an arty, warm and inviting ambiance” There is a very well kept garden area at the back of the property that is a very chilled place to relax, or read a book. The front patio area is more of a social area where you can have coffee or breakfast in the morning or cocktails or other drinks in the evening and meet the others guests. There are a few shops and a bakery within walking distance and a really good gyros place at the top of the road. The bakery was outstanding. I was blown away with the choice of pastries, sandwiches and cakes and the coffee was good as well. Food at the gyros place is good and very reasonably priced. I went for food and beer on my first night to the gyros bar and met some amazing Greek people who took me out dancing the next night. As a solo female guest I felt very safe, both at the hostel itself and in the surrounding areas. It took approximately 10-15 minutes to walk to the walled city of Rhodes. I’m not a fast walker so it’s probably nearer for most. But, what really makes this place special is the lovely people who run the hostel. Micheal and Maria who are super friendly, know everyone by name and are so very helpful providing information and advice. Maria made a point of speaking with me on the first morning to make sure I had everything I needed. It made me feel so welcomed and included. Michael helped with booking my taxi for my early morning ferry to Halki on my last day at the hostel. Both were very kind on the last night at the hostel ensuring I wasn’t alone as I was the only guest left at the hostel as it was also their last night of the season. We spent a lovely time together in the evening and this was super caring of them to give up their time to a share a meal with me. Micheal and Maria are very special people. I stayed for 4 nights but will definitely stay longer next time. The 4 night stay was the beginning of my 4 week Greek island hopping adventure. As a solo, older person I thoroughly enjoyed my time on Halki, Tilos, Nisyros and Symi. I will post separate reviews of the places I stayed whilst on holiday on these islands. I can 100% recommend the Rhodes Backpackers Boutique hostel and apartments. Thank you Micheal and Maria. I hope I see you again next year, your kindness will never be forgotten.
