Oak Mead

Excellent accommodation, superb views and extremely good value. We would highly recommend Oak Mead and will definitely book again when visiting this lovely area. Easy booking and communication. Plenty of parking and a nice balcony with table and chairs for sitting out and enjoy the views, if the weather permits.

We've just returned from 2 nights in Oak Mead and overall can highly recommend staying at this venue. We chose Oak Mead as it sat between 3 venues we wanted to visit: The Turf Pub in Wrexham (thanks to the wife's obsession with Ryan and Disney+), Chester and Chesire Oakes. The choice was also boosted by the cost of hotels in the area vs the competitive rate of Oak Mead. Oak Mead is a single room with a bathroom that connects to the owners house and as other reviews have said, you do hear noise from the house and for some it could feel like your sleeping in someone's spare room. However, effort is made by the owners to stay distant and for us any noise heard was understandable and minimal, meaning we felt homely and comfortable. The location for us was perfect but anyone looking for immediate entertainment will be left wanting. The nearest restaurant was 45 minutes walk and there was a pub 55 minutes away. A taxi from the first was £13 by the way. It's all very quiet but that's because it's very remote. Some will see both or neither as a positive! Easy to find, warm room, tea and coffee provided, good fridge and a helpful welcome folder. 2 minor issues for the owners: the toilet is currently running constantly which in the silent country side is very loud at 3am and the 2nd patio door doesn't open which prevented us both being able to watch the Olympics from the patio. Both minor admittedly. Thank you Oak Mead for your part in a great 3 days away

Gorgeous place to stay, we stayed in the downstairs room, was so lovely and cosy! The place is incredible, so peaceful, absolutely bliss and much needed quiet getaway! The booklet in the room was very handy on knowing where is best to go and how to get there, we didn’t see much of the owners but when we contacted Menna about which taxis were best, she was quick to reply and very helpful. The room was very well equipped with a kettle, toaster and mini fridge with a small freezer tray inside it. They supply you with crockery, cutlery and washing up liquid which was handy. The bed was very comfortable, with a lovely duvet and soft sheets. We barely heard any noise from upstairs apart from some movement around bedtime but it didn’t bother us at all, my only suggestion is to take earplugs if you’re a light sleeper as the fridge does sometimes make a humming sound. The water pressure in the shower isn’t great and does take a little while to heat up but that didn’t bother us too much. The curtains are white and block little light so the sun will wake you in the morning but we both had sleep masks with us so would recommend taking one if you’re likely to wake to light. Overall a gorgeous place and will definitely be recommending to friends to stay if they’re in the area!

Excellent. We spent 2 nights here. We had a lovely ground floor room with a patio with a beautiful view across countryside. It was so quiet and relaxing. Lovely hosts. Highly recommend. Will definitely go again if we are ever in the area again.

We had a lovely stay at Oak Mead. All the essential amenities were provided, such as kettle, toaster, mini fridge, iron etc. The view was absolutely stunning. We loved seeing the horse across the field in the morning and we even had a visit from the heron. Parking was plentiful and, even though there are two other holiday properties on site, our space felt private. The decor was tasteful. The host met us on arrival and was pleasant, but gave us our space, which we appreciated. Bed linen was crisp and clean and we noticed the duvet and pillows were feather filled, which we love. The key was located in an easy to use key safe and there was a helpful guest book with WiFi and local information. We'd certainly stay again, but we do just want to note that we'd have appreciated a more comfortable bed & sofa...both are quite springy, but we appreciate these items can be expensive to replace, especially when there are other properties to maintain. As other reviews point out, the walls are pretty thin, so we could hear that we weren't the only guests, although this didn't really bother us. Other than that, we'd recommend a deep clean. Don't get me wrong, the overall cleanliness was totally fine, but there were alot of cobwebs that could've easily been swept away with a stick duster, and the seals around the shower could do with replacing. The carpet was in good condition, but we did notice a few marks & some pesky carpet beetles, so perhaps this could do with a wet vac.

Lovely stay at oak mead on our way to Yorkshire and again on the way back. Beautiful peaceful setting stayed in the downstairs room on the way and upstairs on the way back both rooms were excellent all we needed for an overnight stay. Owner very friendly and helpful would definitely recommend. Thanks for a lovely stay.

We had a really enjoyable stay in this lovely home. It’s not very far from Chester but it is in a beautiful rural setting where the only sound you can hear is the bird song. The accommodation is very clean and comfortable and the apartment had everything we needed. The owner was charming and welcoming,and made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommended.

This place is out of this world, great welcome, friendly polite and helpful, the cottage and room we booked where outstanding and had everything we needed, down to the coffee, tea and toilet rolls you don't get at a lot of self catering places. The rooms where large, very clean and tidy, the beds where comfy and gave a good nights sleep. The views over fields and the open countryside are great. Would certainly visit again.

We had a lovely relaxing stay here for one night in the downstairs room with patio. The room was well equipped with kettle, toaster, fridge and microwave. There was also a fan and an iron and ironing board. The owners had also placed an information folder in the room with really useful recommendations for places to visit, eat and shop. Idyllic peaceful location. The en-suite bathroom was set up as a wet room however we felt this was a bit of an issue. The room seemed to be too small for this set up as upon having a shower the whole bathroom ended up soaking wet, creating a bit of a hazard. We also noticed this had caused the bottom of the door frame to start rotting away which is such a shame as will need replacing at some point. Overall though we had an amazing weekend and would definitely return.
