We recently spent an enchanting time at Provence Paradise, near St-Remy-de-Provence. We have previously stayed in most of the houses in Provence Paradise, and they are all very special, well-appointed places oozing with French country charm. During this trip we stayed at l’Orangerie. This colorful gem is like a cup of provençal sunshine with its large gorgeous wall of windows. We loved the working stone fireplace, the cheerful French kitchen, and the wonderful private patio which is just a few crunchy pea gravel steps away from the pool. We were refreshed by the endless scents and colors of the gardens at Provence Paradise, long walks along the ancient canal, and breathtaking sunset views of Van Gogh’s Alpilles from the top of the hill. Indeed, there is so much peace and charm in this place, it’s hard to leave! But the location of Provence Paradise is perfect, because there is so much to explore in every direction. We walked into the town of St-Remy-de-Provence for morning pastries and lunchtime baguettes, explored one of the the best markets in Provence, enjoyed food at outside cafes, and basked in the ambiance of this beautiful town. From Provence Paradise, it’s a very short drive to see hundreds of years of ancient history first hand at the archeological site of Glanum, climb over the ruined castles of the Lords of Les Baux, taste the best wines, the best olive oils, the best hikes, and explore the most charming villages of Provence. And just a little further out in every direction are the hilltop villages of the Luberon, the magnificent Roman aqueduct at Pont du Gard, pink flamingoes, white horses, and vast beaches of the Camargue, and the Calanques of the Marseilles coast, just to name a few. William is the most welcoming host who loves his guests and has spent years living in and exploring Provence. He entertained us with wonderful chats of all the latest local and national news, as well as the best first hand advice about what to see and do (and how to see and do it). William knows the area and the country intimately, and his resourceful knowledge were essential for planning each special day here, while his delightful friendship made it all such a deeply enjoyable time. Having lived a bit in the south of France, we strategically choose this area to stay when we visit. But William’s hospitality at this unique, charming property is a rare and special combination to experience the heart of true Provence.
