Blancaneaux Lodge is spectacular for many reasons. The staff were absolutely phenomenal, with their attention to service and insuring that your individual needs were being addressed related to activities, comfort and food. Please understand, this is not a tropical jungle, as it is more of a pine forest, thus don't expect tropical birds, plants, and or animals. If you see them it would be rare. The lodge is isolated within this forest, located next to a "stream" in the dry season, and a river in the wet season. The waterfall which is visible from many of the rooms is manmade, however you can do a fairly long hike to a very nice waterfall, called "Big Rock Falls". Almost all of the activities are off property, and take a bit of time to get to. I Would highly recommend going to the ATM caves. There are 3 restaurants on property, which are the only options for food. It is very nice that they are all good, with enough variety to satisfy most foodies. The room we stayed was one of the 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom villas, and it was great. The lodge is very intune with their environment, having their own garden, generate their own electricity, and water source. There is no air conditioning, nor blended drinks (all shaken), but that was not a problem for us even though the temperatures were in the 100 degrees fahrenheit. 3 - 5 day stays are probably tyhe best options.
