As first time visitors to San Sebastian, we struck lucky in finding Pension Amaiur. Weeks before our arrival, Manager Roberto was sending us useful information, such as best places to park - and when we got there he negotiated a special rate for us at a nearby car park - so useful as parking in SS can be a nightmare. Roberto also gave us a great guide to the best pintxos in town - many of these bars are on the same, ancient pedestrian street as the Pension. You don”t come to San Sebastian for peace and quiet - it’s a wonderful whirlwind of life and gastronomy - and we loved watching all the goings on from our little balcony overlooking the street. Double glazed balcony doors - and a very effective fan in the bedroom - meant we slept well, however. We had our own private bathroom across the corridor, and everything was scrupulously clean. There was even a communal kitchen, with fridge, microwave, crockery, glasses - and complimentary coffee, tea, herbal infusions, biscuits and home-made cake. What more could you ask for? Superb value for money too.
