We had the most beautiful week at the Hotel Monte Uzulu. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, simple, with views from stairways and rooms/patios. I saw hawks and streaked orioles just outside our terrace, with a view of the sea. The rooms were clean and beautiful. Ours had a high thatched ceiling; our daughters room had a skylight in her bathroom that brought in tons of natural light. The plants are beautifully maintained, the grounds are wild-looking, but very much intentional. Julio Alberto Mata was our server in the dining area -- he was so attentive and lovely -- and Jesus the chef is an absolutely ARTIST. Every dish that emerged was perfection. Israel and Ricardo --- and everyone who works there -- was lovely and attentive. My husband was sick for one day and they would bring him electrolyte water. The hotel, however, is not for everyone. It takes a guest who appreciates design and nature -- the open air walls, the hike up to the rooms. We loved it, but it might be too much of a climb for some. For anyone struggling with balance, anyone elderly, it might be a challenge with lots of steps and no handrails. Again, we loved it and had no problem, but thought I should mention.
